Taking a pair of printed shorts and making them un-cutesy with a black body suit and sassy leather mules.
Disclaimer: don’t wear this outfit in the direct summer sunshine. Especially if you’re in Kansas City this week, because sweet mother of heat indexes, it’s hot. But I love a body suit for summer nighttime look. This body suit from H&M has a high neck, and gives me Beyoncé in Single Ladies vibes. (Shop very similar and cheap versions here, here, and here.) I matched it up with printed twill shorts, which made for an un-precious pairing. (My favorite kind.) Orange statement earrings and round mirrored sunnies added more color, but black leather mules with stars and a Western buckle stole the show. While leather mules seem safe enough with a pair of jeans, I wanted to explore ’em with shorts. A little ridiculous, but definitely a cool edge.
Also, keep scrolling for some seriously good Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks– because today is the last day of early access. Starting tomorrow you can shop the sale whether you’re a Nordie’s cardholder or not. (And still enjoy the amazing fast + free shipping and returns.)
Shop the look:
I mentioned wearing these leather mules with denim, which is a killer pairing. (Especially if said jeans include a raw and/or staggered hem, like these gems.) Instant street style vibe. I also wore ’em with black cigarette trousers + classic with blouse at the office for a cooler-than-average work-appropriate outfit. The lesson? You can’t be afraid to remix.
#NSale Picks: Tops, Dresses, Bottoms, Shoes, and Jackets.
Tomorrow is the first day of public access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. (Get those Visa’s ready!) Enjoy free shipping and returns, but shop soon: prices go up on August 8th (and your faves are likely to sell out way before then). I have all my picks here: from dresses to athleisure, I left no Nordie’s stone unturned. You can also find everything I’ve already curated included in the lists below for easy-browsing.
Tops + Dresses
My top three faves from this category: this blush + black floral top (that totally works now and come fall!), this amazing striped romper for under $50, and this crossover sweater (that comes in four colors).
Pants + Jeans
Who doesn’t need a re-up on denim every now and again? The sale has so many great pairs of jeans included, but I’ve listed my favorites here. I love the darker wash + ankle length of these Articles of Society jeans, and they’re less than $40 on sale. If you’re looking to score designer denim at a discount, I am a huge fan of Frame jeans– this pair is a quintessential classic wash and the Frame fit makes that price tag a little easier to swallow. For something different, these faux leather olive green skinnies from BlankNYC are a must at $65.
Shoes + Boots
I never miss an opportunity to buy ankle boots because I get year-round use out of ’em. I wear them now with cutoff shorts and summer dresses, and then wear them later with denim and sweaters. I will be buying these suede bad boys because that gray is so wearable and I love the cutout detail. If you need an over-the-knee boot that doesn’t completely break the bank, these Halogen boots check that box and then some. OTK boots for about $100? Yes, go now.
Major Jacket Porn
I’m a sucker for a good jacket. Seriously cannot seem to buy enough. I already snapped up this faux leather moto (for $65, I was sold) in hunter green because I didn’t have anything this color in my jacket arsenal. If you’re looking for a real leather classic moto, this is your jam. And bomber jackets are huge, so I would recommend this version while it’s still in stock.
