She Could Be A Farmer In Those Clothes.

Ah yes, let’s start the week at LSR with a memorable Clueless reference, shall we?

Before we jump into the details of my pretty ridiculous outfit, I want to announce a $75 gift card to Sephora giveaway I’m participating in with a few lovely ladies in celebration of Alissa at The Adored Life’s second blogging anniversary.

Enter to win a $75 Sephora gift card!

So my fellow Millennials might remember wearing overalls when we were kids; I know I had a few pairs perfect for climbing trees and jumping curbs with my 10-speed. And now overalls are back and better than ever.

I found this black twill pair at ASOS and my interest was immediately piqued. These were either going to be really good or really bad. Challenge accepted, as per my usual. They arrived in the post and I was in love– the skinny leg was flattering and easy to wear, but the top bib portion had enough slouch so it didn’t create any weird pulling. To finish off the outfit, I slipped on a basic white tank, calf-hair leopard pumps, and a new necklace from the latest Courtney Kerr for BaubleBar collection.

I ended up loving these overalls so much I wore ‘em to work last Friday (with a fitted gray hoodie and b&w brogues). I got a few raised eyebrows that clearly said, “Are you really wearing overalls?” but they were a hit with most. Most definitely rocking these bad boys throughout the spring and summer.

Pastel Stripes + Go Blog Social After-Party.

All good things must come to an end– and what better way to cap off Go Blog Social than with a party at The Garment District? GBS sprung for sushi and a round of cocktails for everyone, and we were invited to shop the super cute boutique with our newfound blogging buds.

I had time to run home and change, but opted to leave on the super strong shoulder leather jacket from the day’s outfit as a topper. (Imagine that, Ashley wanted to wear something ridiculous.) A pastel striped shift was perfect with a bright pink lip and nude pumps, and I left on the mint-colored Hello Cheeseburger jewelry + Bauble Bar signature necklace I had been wearing earlier in the day, as well. Nothing like a quick change!

After-party adventures:

bloggers at go blog social

Clockwise L to R: Emily‘s yummy cocktail; my makeup for the after-party; the Real Housewives of Go Blog Social: Lauren, me, Emily, Emily, and Maya (who was on a bathroom run); Emily dwarfing me in her killer Target dress. (Credit to the Emily’s for their IG photos.)

The girls and I picked up a few new things at the boutique (to be featured soon on the blog, I’m sure– I bought a grenade pendant, for crying out loud), and then went for drinks (more drinks?!) at the Drum Room.

It was a whirlwind weekend and I was dead tired on Sunday– but totally worth it to meet all these incredibly smart and ambitious women. I left Go Blog Social feeling not only like I had some great ideas for LSR, but also like I had forged some new friendships. Thank you, girls!

Strong Shoulders + Go Blog Social 2014.

I went to Go Blog Social here in Kansas City this past weekend, and man did I leave inspired, revived, and newly-connected to some amazingly sweet and talented blogger pals. I’m still wading through business cards and speaker notes, but am so excited to apply what I learned at GBS 2014 to my little ol’ blog.

Day 1 adventures:

bloggers at go blog social

Clockwise L to R: The gorgeous Berg Event space; a blogger group photo at happy hour; GBS!; a blogger selfie to rival Ellen’s; Emily and I on Day 1.

So what does one wear to a blogging conference? You know  for Day 2 I had to wear something a bit ridic– but without totally sacrificing comfort. I came up with a simple black v-neck tee and skinny jeans with busted knees (last seen here), a pair of killer Zara sandals in a super loud color (no worries; I brought roll-up flats to wear on the walk downtown to lunch), and a leather jacket with strong shoulders. The first day of GBS was chilly + windy, but Day 2 was gorgeous and perfect for an outdoor outfit shoot:

The outfit had a few elements of interest, but the base layer was super casual: a t-shirt and jeans. The ripped knees and leather bits gave it a tough factor I loved, while pretty touches of mint jewelry and bright suede heels glammed things up. Love a good mix of girly + badass.

More Day 2 adventures:

Emily, Jess, and Emily. Seriously, how tall are all you Emily’s?!

A few of the girls I rolled with at GBS 2014. L to R: Dianna, Shanley, Emily, Jess, and yours truly.

Ladies (and a few gents), it was so lovely to meet all of you. Between dishing over photo woes and professing our still-burning love for JTT, I had the best time. Meet-ups and reunions soon, yes? Check back Thursday for what I wore to the after-party at The Garment District. (A boutique with a bar in the center. Guys, this place was made for me!)

A quick thank you to Monica at Euphoric Fashion Trends for a feature she did on me + LSR. Thanks, babe!

All the Prints.

There’s print mixing, and then there’s print mixing. As in, “Are you seriously wearing all of that?

But a little print risk never hurt anyone (that I’m aware of), so I gave it a shot by matching up this camo + striped Gap tee with a pair of leopard pumps. I know, I know. On paper, it sounds like a bit much– but the nice ‘n solid navy trouser in the middles serves to separate the prints and prevent some serious clashing.

I’ve never really been a camo girl (at all, actually), but for some reason really liked the camo body and striped sleeve combination of this t-shirt. It’s easy to wear, also– super soft with a little bit of slouch, and can be dressed up or down.

What is everyone up to this weekend? I’ve got Go Blog Social tomorrow + Saturday to keep me busy, and then Sunday I’ll be slaving away in the ol’ dressing room switching out winter sweaters for spring dresses (which always turns into a 6-hour event).

A big congrats to Andrea D., who won the LSR + Commodity Goods fragrance giveaway! Yay for smelling good + feeling good.

Midi Skirt + Zara Pumps.

I was a little hesitant to try the midi skirt at first– I’m only 5’5, which means this girl accept that sometimes she’s not tall enough to pull off every trend.

But you never know until you try, so I found this ASOS skirt and pulled the trigger. Great weight– it has a bit of heft to it, which will keep the skirt from blowing up over my head on blustery Kansas City afternoons. It also has a lovely twirl-factor and pockets. Instant fan, right here. Trying it on allowed me to immediately determine I wasn’t a midi-skirt-and-flats kind of girl. Being 5’5 strikes again. Pumps it is!

Tucked a simple white v-neck into the skirt, cinched it with a mint-colored patent belt, and broke in my new bright coral Zara pumps.

Housekeeping: today is the last day to enter my Commodity Goods fragrance giveaway. You could win a fragrance fitting kit + a trio of your favorite scents. Hop to it!

This week is super packed– lots to do before I jet off to Go Blog Social on Friday + Saturday. I’m going with my friend Emily, and am hooking up with a few blogging pals. Are you going? Let me know; I’d love to meet up!

Neon Mint + KC/BB.

I attended the first KC/BB (Kansas City Blogger Brunch) with a few of my blogger pals. Ladies-who-brunch sort of screams midi skirts and a cardigan, but it was a chilly morning in KC so I opted for skinny dark denim and tall boots. To bring in the spring, I grabbed a floaty mint tee and layered on some serious statement jewelry.

mint cropped tee, neon statement necklace, bauble bar courtney bib, michael kors boots, madewell denim

Nordstrom tee (similar) // Madewell denim // Michael Kors boots (similar) // BaubleBar chain necklace // boutique neon necklace (similar) // Gorjana neon wrap bracelet // Kate Spade bangle

I layered the super huge Courtney bib from BaubleBar under a neon orange + mint statement necklace. A little over the top, for sure, so I chose a solid-colored tee and didn’t wear competing statement earrings. A quick bracelet stack to add some more color:  a neon orange leather wrap bracelet from Gorjana + a gold bangle.

I met some new friends and we swore an oath to meet up soon for Bloody Mary’s (PS- I’m holding all of you to this). Including my KCFW friend Jess from 26 & Not Counting, I had the pleasure of brunching with Shanley from Eat it Kansas City, Danielle from Framed Frosting, and Jen from Defining My Happy. A great way to spend a bright early spring morning in KC, for sure.

If you follow me on IG, you may have seen a flurry of macaron shots and place setting pics. The decor was too cute not to document.

My Commodity Experience + A Commodity Giveaway.

Do you have a signature fragrance?

commodity fitting kit for women

The Commodity fitting kit for women.

The amazing team at Commodity reached out to see if I wanted to take their fitting kits for a spin. They have taken the convenient try-at-home trend and applied it to choosing a fragrance. I love this idea; who doesn’t appreciate a test drive? Commodity didn’t have to ask me twice– I’m a bit of a fragrance junkie. Don’t believe me? Check out this shot from my IG. I’m always on the hunt for my newest favorite.

How Commodity works: you order a fitting kit for a reasonable $9, which includes 10 scents. (Boys, you can play too; there’s a kit for men!)

You get a full 30 days to test drive the scents. This was my favorite part– being able to really give each fragrance a shot.

paper commodity fragranceRather than trying to smell all 10 scents in a single setting like I would at a fragrance counter (and searching for a bare patch on my arm to spray yet another test spritz), I could wear one scent each day, go back and re-try scents I wasn’t sure about, etc., to find the scent that worked best for me.

What comes next? You choose your favorite fragrance and place an order via the Commodity website– less the $9 you originally paid for the fitting kit. Essentially, you get $9 off the price of either a trio of 10 mL scents ($48) or a hefty 100 mL bottle ($108) if you make a purchase in the first 30 days. Brilliant, no?

paper fragrance from commodity goods

My very own bottle of Paper!

So what scent was my favorite? I’m typically very into fresh + green and/or fruity scents, so Moss, Ivy, and Mimosa were hits for me– but the real winner, and my number 1 choice? Paper. So, so gorgeous. Really unique; I don’t have anything like it.

Commodity describes Paper as the “best version of you,” which is quite a cool phrase. But it’s true– the scent is very subtle + a bit warm, and just smells good. A perfect anytime fragrance, especially during the day.

I’m excited to partner up with the cool kids at Commodity to offer you guys the full Commodity experience. The winner will get his or her very own fitting kit, a chance to try out all the scents in the kit, and then the choice of a trio of 10 mL fragrances. How about that?

Ready to find your new signature fragrance? Enter for a chance to win the Commodity experience!

A big thank you to Erin and Laura who run the Trend Spin link up– I’m one of their featured bloggers this week! (In my super cool wallpaper outfit from KCFW) Thanks, girls!

*Commodity sent the fragrances for my review; thoughts and opinions are my own.

Red Stones and Olive Skinnies.

Happy first day of spring! May your skies be clear and your temperatures be in (at least) the mid-60s.

I’ve been itching to wear this gorgeous red stone statement necklace since I picked it up at a boutique a few weeks back. Paired with a super comfy printed tee, a pair of olive green skinny khakis (bless you Gap for getting the fit right so the pants don’t bag out halfway through the day!), and leopard print pumps, this was a fairly busy-but-kinda-fun work outfit.

The print running through the shirt is a more orange than red, and the stones in the necklace have more pink in ‘em than true crimson, but the combo doesn’t offend. The leopard pumps are far enough away from the busy-busy happening up top so as not to look too crazy. Easy print mix: one print on the top, one print via the shoe, and separated by a clean neutral (like these olive green skinnies).

Really excited for the weekend. It’s tournament season, ladies ‘n gents! My Jayhawks drew a #2 seed in the South region (may the basketball gods be with us), so I’ll be spending Friday afternoon and (hopefully) Sunday watching them play.

In between basketball rounds, I’ll be at the Kansas City Blogger Brunch (hosted by some cool cats, including my bud Alissa) on Saturday morning. They said mimosas, donuts, and glitter letters– but in all honestly a little champagne + OJ is all you need to get me to RSVP “yes.” Go Team KC/BB.

KC blogger pals, let me know if you’re going!

Wallpaper + Kansas City Fashion Week.

Kansas City Fashion Week was last week, and I was lucky enough to attend Saturday night’s festivities. I wanted something a bit quirky to wear; your average skirt + stiletto combo wasn’t my aim this go-round. (And I had already done the Tough Girl thing last time, so I was on the hunt for something new.)

Enter my pals at JCrew. They know what a girl needs when she wants to stand out. I paired their lattice medallion printed blouse + trousers together for a pantsuit-esque, maybe-sorta-wearing-wallpaper look. I’m fine with it. In fact, I loved it. A skinny belt helped break things up in the middle, a statement necklace and earrings layered in more points of interest, and a navy leather jacket toned the whole look just a bit.

I attended the show with my friend Alissa from The Adored Life (who was kind enough to shoot the photos above, and give me a crash course in her badass DSLR), and then met up with Jess from 26 & Not Counting. Together the three of us navigated the carpet, and hopped backstage to the ULTA lounge to check out the models in their natural habitat + a quick preview of a few of the runway pieces.

The girls and I ended the night navigating the city hunting for a burger in a spring downpour– complete with flooded streets and puddles that could swallow us whole. (It’s a good thing my pumps were patent leather and not suede!) Hey, what’s a little lightning + rain between friends?

A special thanks to the Kansas City Fashion Week team for having me, and to ULTA for the backstage access + bag of beauty goodies to test drive.

Black + White Peter Pilotto for Target.

I have been waiting for the weather to warm up enough for me to wear more of my Peter Pilotto for Target pieces. I got the chance last weekend when both the weather and the occasion (happy 30th, Laura!) meant I could take this number for a spin.

Although it looks like a dress, this is actually a skirt + top combo. The top is a rash guard (surf’s up, how ridiculous– and I love it) and the bottom is this really cool folded skirt with contrasting black and white prints. With so much going on up top, I kept the shoe really simple + classic in a pointed toe patent pump and minimal jewelry.

I’m really excited for the weekend– the Big 12 Tournament starts up for my Jayhawks today and I’ve got Kansas City Fashion Week on Saturday night. Excited to see the shows, visit the ULTA Beauty backstage lounge, and visit with some local bloggers. Busy, busy. Check back next week for fashion week coverage.
