Outfit Idea: Matching Gray Blazer and Vest with Levi's. | LSR

The Vest is Back.

Making room in my closet for a matching vest and blazer.

The 80s are kinda back, y’all. I’m not complaining. We’re going oversized with a padded shoulder and adding a matching button-up vest worn as a top. Brilliant, I’m so game.

This blazer and vest combo was a Zara find (found similar versions here and here) felt like a fun winter-to-summer set. (More on transitioning this below.) I wanted it to feel more lived-in rather than office-chic, so I broke out the classic Levi’s. I’ve worn this pair countless times (like here, here, and here) and they never fail me.

A pair of gunmetal croc ankle booties were just the shoe I needed for this look. Yes, it’s all neutral. But is it boring? Absolutely not. Gold accessories like these super affordable (and lightweight!) hoops and a chain necklace helped add just a little glam. Don’t forget gold was huge in the 80s, so it all tracks.

This blazer and vest work now with jeans and an oversized faux fur coat. It means you’re set when you’re outside in the elements, but the blazer keeps you warm once you’re indoors. Want to add another layer? Start with a thin black turtleneck as your base, then top it with the vest. Warmer version and totally changes the vibe.

Once spring hits, I’ll remix by wearing just the vest with a fitted white t-shirt and high-waisted wide-leg jeans. For summer? The blazer and vest with a pair of distressed denim shorts and a strappy sandal. This blazer and vest combo is truly an all-season set!

  1. Yes to vests! I’ve been obsessed myself lately, but can’t seem to find the kind I want (in this country, in my size, anyway) yet. Now I’m stalking ebay and poshmark with fingers crossed.

You’re totally rocking the vest-as-shirt look here!

  2. Ashley, I really like this throwback 80’s style but you kept it super modern, too! What a cool vest and blazer set. I literally was just looking at a vest and blazer in the men’s section on a recent thrifting trip. I was tempted to buy it but it was a bit too small for me. Now I have to keep looking because this is such a cool look that I want to recreate it! Thanks for linking.
