Breaking Out the Velvet: Black Blazer Edition. | LSR

Another Velvet Blazer with Wide-leg Jeans.

I can’t quit velvet blazers and debuting a new denim trend: wide-leg jeans.

KC has been in a deep freeze for over a week– just looking at these pictures makes me cold. (They were thankfully taken on a 50-degree day right before the super cold air arrived.) Exposed hands and feet right now? No way! But it’s time to talk about wide-leg jeans. Just the vest, they’re back in a big way.

I’m wearing a pair of affordable wide-legs here today with a white camisole and a black blazer. Yes, that blazer is velvet. Yes, I know I just did that a few weeks back. No, I am not ashamed. Velvet is a vibe, baby!

I wanted to keep that dressy vibe going, so a pair of classic black patent pumps were my shoe of choice. They help to balance the casual vibe of the wide-leg jeans (especially with that slit in the knee).

Have you heard the youth on TikTok talking about how “skinny jeans and side parts make Millennials look old”? I have so many issues with this, haha. First: please try middle-parting this massive head of curly hair. Not really an option. Secondly: while I love that different denim styles are in (like wide-leg jeans and straight-leg styles), the skinny still has its time and place. Third: I really don’t need to take fashion advice from the generation that gave us the Tide Pod Challenge, you know what I mean?

My final point: trends are cyclical. Like the vest– an 80s trend– and wide-leg jeans–a 90s trend. Most pieces come back around. So while skinnies might not be the denim du jour, they’ll be back. Calm down, children. Also, those Mom jeans you love? That trend was started by Boomers. Nothing is original; it’s just a modern version of a trend from a previous time period. I’m just not here for fashion shaming; wear what you like, whether it’s “on trend” or not. What matters is that it makes you feel good!

  1. I looooove this look! I mean you look chic in absolutely everything, but this looks SO good on you. Velvet is a total vibe. Also I am completely with you on the final two paras – forget trends, you do you. Also I am so not ready to give up my side part.
