Has fall settled in where you are? KC hasn’t fully committed just yet; in fact, we’re in the 80s for the first part of this week. But cooler temps are coming! And I’m celebrating that in the October issue of Kansas City Homes & Style in a pair of fall-friendly wide-leg Amazon trousers that are perfect for an autumn transition.

These trousers are brilliant— an under $40 Amazon score, they come in a ton of colors (and even some prints) and are so comfortable. They seriously feel like pajama pants— and you know I love a pajama vibe— but chic enough to go anywhere your standard office pant can go.

I paired the pants with a sailor-style sweater. Navy stripes and a wide collar? Yes, please! I sized up for some slouch, tucked the front, and slipped into a pair of classic suede ballet flats. Off to the early fall races!

Styling tip for tucking in a slouchy sweater: a tuck is your friend, but don’t tuck it into the front of your trousers or jeans. Instead, roll the sweater up and tuck the hem into the band of your bra. This creates the same look without adding any weird bulk to your midsection.

And let’s give a little shout-out for the return of the ballet flat! For many, the ballet flat has been a staple shoe for ages now. But now this classic shoe is having a moment in the trendy spotlight, as it was spotted trotting down several fall and winter runways. I’ve had these black suede almond toe flats forever, but you can score my exact pair right here.

Congrats to the KC Homes & Style crew for another gorgeous issue (which you can read in full for free right here) and happy October, everyone!

  1. Hi Ashley, yes start of fall season here with strong wind sometimes and it rained last weekend.. Hey, your outfit is completely chic and classy, great taste, I loved the colors and your cool sense of humour in the text.. Please allow me to say that you reflect the true beauty.

  2. Loving this head to toe look on you! Adorable and although you say comfort like pjs, you totally don’t look like you just rolled out of bed. So that’s a huge win! I am going to check these out!

    1. It’s such a handy, flattering trick! And best part- you don’t have to redo your handiwork when you go to the bathroom, like you do with a traditional tuck!

  4. I love this outfit, Ashley! The sweater is so pretty and the trousers are awesome. I am happy ballet flats are making a comeback because they’re probably my favorite dressier shoe, just because they are more comfortable than heels for me.

Wishing you a wonderful week, friend! 🙂

Your look is perfect, I just wouldn’t wear those flat shoes, because my foot doesn’t allow it, but I would wear it with boots!
Hope everything is well with you!
