It’s well established around these parts that I’m a big fan of smocking. Anything that allows me to forgo a bra in the summertime is my kind of situation, so I was all in on this smocked floral blouse. Lightweight cotton, cute ditzy floral, flouncy sleeves– the best features of a summer blouse.

When I shot this look, we were enjoying a temporary reprieve from the KC heat, so I opted for wide-leg jeans rather than classic denim cutoffs. I love the super light wash and busted knees on this pair from KanCan; they were a little long on me (5’5, imagine that) so I chopped off the bottoms and fashioned a raw hem for some added edge.

Finishing touch: a white thong heeled sandal because everything 2000’s is in again. I scored these for under $30 and they’re the perfect summer sandal. I can’t wait to wear them with shorts and dresses next. (They also come in hot pink and I had to snap those up, too.)

  1. Oh I love this look with the smocked top I too am a fan of smocked cuts for summer as it is so hot or should I say HUMID. NY is always between 60-85% humidity with the bulk of the summer between 70-75%. Do you know what the humidity level is in Paris? 20%! But seriously this is a great look and those shoes are a great deal!

    1. Ugh- I have definitely heard about the NYC humidity! KC is super humid, too- it can really mess up your patio plans because you end up so uncomfortably hot and sweaty. Paris is onto something… haha. Thanks for stopping by, Allie!

    1. Yes! This top will come in handy in September as we start to inch toward fall- pop a leather jacket over the top when it cools down and you’re set!

    1. I’m so here for the smocking! And I’m so sorry to hear about your hostas- these have been with me 10+ years and are my babies! We actually dug ’em up from our old house and replanted when we moved to the current house because I couldn’t bear to leave them behind!
