You’re not going to believe what’s back– or maybe you will since everything 90s is new again. Just in time for the June issue of Kansas City Homes & Style, we’re welcoming back to the fashion mix an old fave: overalls!

It’s been a minute since I’ve been in a pair of overalls. (Maybe here?) And of the slouchy, faded, non-stretch variety? We’re talking Osh Kosh times, guys. But wide legs are everywhere in denim right now and a general baggy fit is more on-trend than anything too fitted so here we go.

What I liked about this pair is that the denim wasn’t too thick or stiff. That thinner, worn-in material? Perfect for warmer weather. The humidity in KC kicks up starting in June and anything too heavy denim-wise is a sure way to get cranky, fast. Another tip: size up like I did here for an even slouchier fit, which ups the breezy factor.

You’ve got major options when it comes to what to wear underneath your overalls. I chose a lightweight linen sweater in a summery neon coral. Perfect for those cloudy days or cool June nights. The key is keeping your top on the tailored side to balance the volume of the overalls. Pops of white from a pair of white sandals and white-trimmed cat-eye sunglasses anchor this outfit post-Memorial Day.

So how else to wear these overalls? You could go with a cropped tank, a fitted t-shirt, or even a bikini top. How’s that for a remix on your standard poolside cover-up? Again, the thinner denim and slouchy fit are the key factors here.

  1. Ohmygosh this is adorable! Honestly, while I love the look of overalls on others, it’s an item I have NEVER tried in my ENTIRE life. But you look so cute in these, I may have to reconsider 🙂 plus, I’m loving the sweet color on the sweater underneath.

  3. haha I think the last time I wore overalls they were probably Osh Kosh as well. I like the look of them, I just never think to actually *buy* them and wear them. You pull them off really well though!

  8. I have two pairs of overalls that are denim, long pants ones and shorts!! Ha, ha! I love both! That neon long sleeved tee is so cute with the overalls and perfect for the summer!

    1. I love that you can dress these up! I typically think of overalls as more casual, but it’s nice to be able to dress ’em up!

    1. The white sandals really dressed this up! I love how you can totally change up the look of overalls by swapping a shoe, changing the top, etc. 🙂
