I have been into super girly looks lately, but I’m really not complaining. We’ll call it a sartorial celebration of being vaccinated and the world opening back up. Today I’m in a smocked floral midi dress with white sandals and a white blazer. I was immediately drawn to this interesting periwinkle floral; I don’t have too much of this color in my closet.

I decided to style this dress up for a spring + summer event (think weddings, bridal and baby showers, or a date night). I dove into my blazer collection and resurface with this old-but-still-amazing white Theory blazer. (You can get this season’s version here.) It’s lightweight, which makes it the perfect sophisticated layer. White stiletto sandals (also old– what can I say, I’m all about the remix) dressed this look up even more. They also served me well in making me look taller– always a bonus.

The smocking (or shirring) this dress has makes it super stretchy, so even though it’s bodycon, you can still move. I loved the ruffles throughout and still really can’t get over how damn cute that print is.

I accessorized with lots of gold pieces (who’s surprised?) and you’ll see a lot of vintage pieces here. I was able to spend some time with Grandma recently (now that we’re both vaccinated; the first time I’ve seen her in a year a half!) and she gifted me with some really pretty pieces that have so much history. The gold coin necklace was a gift from her best friend while her friend lived in England and worked for the Queen. (Like, wow!)  The gold fillagree ring and the tennis bracelets were a few of the first pieces of nice jewelry Grandma bought herself after she started working. It was so special to hear her stories and I love wearing little pieces of her history.

    1. I agree- having the option to go girly is so fun! And yes, I just love my grandma’s pieces- it was so cool to hear the stories behind them, too!

    1. It’s a pretty piece, right? I didn’t have much (if any!) periwinkle in the closet, so it was a fun addition!

  2. This dress is just on smocking & ruffle overload and I love it. I’m so glad you were able to spend time with your grandma after being apart for a year and a half. I have a monogrammed ring from my great aunt that I was named after and it is so special to me.

    1. Aw, your ring sounds so sweet! I love how jewelry like this is a nice way of remembering/honoring them. My grandma is still with us, of course, but I’m reminded of her and the stories behind her pieces every time I wear them. 🙂

    1. Normally I’m not one for dainty ruffles- but I really liked ’em on this midi dress! It ended up being super cute!

    1. Thanks, sista! I really don’t have much of this color at all in the closet, so it was fun to play with. 🙂
