Going Red for Project Sister Act.

A red plaid Madewell shirt for February’s Project Sister Act.

Red and February go together like PB&J. While I don’t have a ton of red in my wardrobe, this Madewell shirt came to mind when Sheelah from Sheelah Writes contacted me about joining in on February’s Project Sister Act for a red-hued theme.

Sheelah started Project Sister Act to illustrate how no matter your age, you can put your own spin on the trends. Project Sister Act showcases how colors and accents can be interpreted + personalized by gathering a few bloggers in specific age ranges to participate: a blogger in her teens, one in her 20’s, one in her 30’s, Sheelah reps the 40’s, and a blogger in her 50’s. I’m the 30-something blogger for this round, and my outfit demonstrates that red doesn’t have to be super romantic or girly. (Not that there’s anything wrong with romantic/girly, just not my usual schtick.)

This red plaid Madewell shirt is an easy piece to style. I wanted to put a tough spin on things, so I grabbed a pair of high-waisted faded black denim (an H&M score), a pair of fishnets (yeah, they’re a thing), and a double-buckle belt (get it at ASOS for under $30). Some dainty jewelry and a pair of classic + cool loafer mules work in some more ladylike elements and provide a little balance to the outfit.

  2. I love your non-girly take on the red look, girlfriend. It’s so funny. I see fishnets everywhere – but of course, I’m a fashion blogger – while none of the stores in Seattle seem to sell them in anklets! They are such a fun detail.

  3. I love the addition of the fishnets and I’m definitely going to try the look out myself 🙂 I don’t have much red in my wardrobe but one of my favourite pieces is my red coat from Coast. x

  4. Love the idea of celebrating women’s sense of style across the age groups. Great way to style the red plaid and how awesome are your shoes!!!
