A round on live TV means a bright floral blouse.

Raise your hand if you’re completely over winter. (Picture me with both arms in the air.) You’ve lost your charm, ice + snow. Time to move on and make room for spring all that brings– like a bright floral blouse and abundant sunshine.

For a recent segment on Better Kansas City (you can watch here if you like), I wanted something that hinted at spring without going full-stop May. I love this bright floral blouse from H&M (seriously, such a steal); it paired so well with classic skinny jeans (get ’em here) and blue pumps.

I recently realized I’ve been doing segments for BKC for just over three years! That’s really something, right?

I remember being so incredibly nervous my first few (okay, first ten) segments. I would almost get sick to my stomach in the days leading up to the show– public speaking has never been my jam. I wanted the opportunity, of course, but the thought of messing up was really scary.

I would rehearse my talking points over and over again, committing them to memory in hopes I wouldn’t freeze when the cameras started rolling. I would wake up extra early the day of the show to practice a few more times while I was getting dressed and doing my makeup.

Now, while I still write + practice the segment beforehand, I don’t run through it as obsessively. I work hard to get it down, then I check in and do a few more practice runs. I also don’t get nervous in the days ahead of the show– I’m more excited about what outfit I’ll wear.

I do still get a quick flush of nerves as I’m standing on set just before the camera cuts to me– I don’t care how long I’ve been doing it, the realization of, “We’re live in 10…” will make anyone nervous! However, a deep breath calms me enough to keep my voice steady. I relax my knees (wouldn’t be cute to pass out on live television), and smile– and then it’s go time!

  3. So much to love on here! You did such a good job on BKC, loved the floral dress with the moto. Blush is my jam, yesterday and last Wednesday were outfits with blush for me. Bright and Beautiful, Floral and Fab…that’s what you are and killer blue shoes!

    Public speaking is the No. 1 anxiety among humans. One business executive was scheduled to give a speech to his company and was so nervous about it he faked a heart-attack to get out of doing it. We all share your feeling!

    1. Yes, I hear you- it’ll definitely be a while before I can break out the sandal collection- for now, florals will have to do!
