70s Boho in a Floral Dress + Over-the-knee Boots.

Retro 70s boho with a springtime vibe.

My style skews super boho in the spring and summer. Light, airy pieces, retro prints, boots with dresses, floppy hats, and bell sleeves– I crave it all. It’s all 70s boho vibes May through August.

This particular boho look started with a dress: floaty chiffon with a tiered ruffle hem in a dainty-but-retro floral. I belted it to add some waist definition and slipped on a pair of thigh high boots (these are just as good as the designer Stuart Weitzman’s for a fraction of the cost, by the way; I sized up one size from my usual 8 and they fit perfectly). Finishing touch: a floppy hat. Not light enough for the beach and not quite a true fedora, this hat has just enough structure while still maintaining that lived-in, hippie-dippie vibe.

The boots are perfect for making this dress work on cooler spring days– I don’t know about the weather for you guys, but Kansas City springs usually fluctuate (sometimes overnight) between temps in the 50s and 80s. Keeping a boot like this– normally reserved for the fall and winter– around during the spring adds some outfitting flexibility.

You’ll notice I’m shooting on my front porch again! This is the first time I’ve been able to shoot here at the new house (well, unless you count in front of my really exciting, oh-so-editorial garage). I had missed how easy + breezy it was to be able to do a quick shooting session on my porch– get an outfit sorted, shoot it, run back inside and change, shoot it, rinse, repeat.

We’ve done some gardening (you’ll be happy to know the hostas from the old house have been transplanted and are sprouting!) and general personalizing of the stoop, which makes it a cute place to snap a few photos. Because I’m quite the crazy plant lady (as my office clearly demonstrates), I’ll be continuing to enhance this space. Bring on all the planting!
