Valentine’s Day Outfit Idea: Red Dress + Black Boots.

Dressing up? A Valentine’s Day outfit for a night on town.

Now that we’re out of January (bless!), February 14th is just around the corner. Which means it’s time to start planning that Valentine’s Day outfit. If you’re going the fancy route– be it with your main squeeze or a group of pals– let me suggest something of the burgundy variety, like this dress from H&M. (It’s last season, but I’ve linked so many killer alternatives at the end of this post.) The swingy tassels and ruffles add some fun, while the slouchy tie waist means you can clean your plate and not have to worry about an obvious food baby. The lightweight fabric needed some warming up to make it winter-ready, so I layered tights on underneath (not pictured: a heavy shearling jacket) and a pair of cool pointed toe boots.

H&M dress (super similar here for under $50; also similar here and on sale here) // Target tights (a steal for $6) // Zara boots (similar here and love these on sale for about $100) // Ray-Ban sunglasses

Although this dress is lighter in weight (which makes it ideal for early fall, spring, and brisk summer nights), the color and longer sleeves make it a great pick for a Valentine’s Day outfit. Just don’t forget your coat!

Stay tuned: next week I’ll be sharing a more casual Valentine’s Day outfit for those keeping the festivities lower key.

  1. What a perfect outfit for V-day. Burgundy is always such a great color. I love the use of colored tights and black is the smart choice here. Cute booties, too. You’ve got it all goin’ on!

  2. What a gorgeous dress for Valentine’s Day date! I always love wearing red on Valentine’s Day to feel a bit more festive 🙂 I don’t even know what we’re doing this year yet though!

  3. I love your new blog design. Its cool. As for your Valentine’s dress I love your red dress and your black ankle booties which makes the dress pop out. My Valentine’s dinner is next Friday which marks my 27 month anniversary with my boyfriend. Boyfriend’s mom passed away on Valentines night 2009 so he moved it to our monthly anniversary night. Its a rough night for him.

    1. Thank you so much, Tammy! I like how the outfit turned out, too. And I don’t blame your boyfriend for wanting to move your Valentine’s celebration- gotta be a very hard time for him on the actual day.

  4. Oh wow, I didn’t recognise you at first with the blonde hair Ashley haha -it keeps taking me by surprise!! Love this red dress on you, as well as the lovely Valentine’s vibes.

  5. This dress is so cute and I love the colour! My boyfriend and I don’t tend to celebrate Valentine’s Day as it is two weeks after my birthday and two weeks before his so it can get a little expensive. I am tempted to see if we could go out for a meal or something though just so I can have the chance to dress up in a nice Valentine’s Day outfit! x

  6. It’s been a while since I’ve been to your blog sorry! But I love the layout 🙂

That’s a really cute boho dress too – the tassels are such a nice feature and the colour is lovely on you. Great for Valentine’s day.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend 🙂
