Wearing a Dress as a Duster.

Remixing a summery maxi dress as a spring duster.

My impatience for warmer weather is at an all-time high. I cannot wait for cutoff denim shorts, sandals, and floaty dresses. In the meantime, I’m getting my fix by repurposing a summery maxi dress as a duster. I threw this dress on over the top of a basic white blouse and skinny jeans (these jams from Madewell are a necessity) and instantly it felt like spring was just around the corner. A quirky statement necklace and a pair of olive green mule slide sandals add some interest to the look. (I love adding over-the-top pieces like this necklace with more minimalist elements, like the mules.) Solid spring look, no?

This dress is acting as a duster now, but don’t you think it’ll be the perfect summer maxi dress come May and June? Totally thinking about bringing this baby to Greece– it would work as a dress for day or night, and would make for a cute swimsuit cover-up or as a duster worn over denim cutoffs and a tank top. The possibilities!

I am right in the middle of Kansas City Fashion Week; we kicked off the season with a black tie event on Tuesday night, and then I have runway shows tomorrow + Saturday downtown. So excited to see what the designers bring to the table; I’m always so impressed! I’ll be covering the events in real time via Snap (username: ashrockchalk) and Insta stories (username: ashrockchalk), so be sure to follow along!

  2. Such a smart idea to get even more bang for your buck in the wardrobe department. Loving how this look turned out. The white and blue maxi is perfect with your denim. Those slides are killer too.

  3. Oh I love this! The dress-as-duster idea is great, I love how it really changes the look of the dress. I’ve done that before with a shorter dress, but now I want to try it with a maxi length one, it adds great drama! 🙂

  4. That is such a genius idea and I remember you in that dress before! What a beautiful look and I can’t wait to leave the house without a thick jacket, it’s still a touch too cold here for that.

  5. This is a great idea! It is like making the dress a kimono. I’m all about finding new ways to wear items. Also, you have found some great shoes at H&M recently. I’m going to have to check them out!
