Mixing prints: scarf print and snakeskin.
How do you feel about a print mix? By now, you’ve probably gotten used to seeing stripes with leopard, plaid, or camo. But what about a scarf print dress with snakeskin boots? (Scarf print = prints traditionally found on silk neck scarves. This trend has since jumped onto blouses, dresses, and jumpsuits. It’s all very Gucci right now.) I was doing some spring shopping at ASOS a few weeks back in preparation for KCFW and this scarf print dress immediately caught my eye. Fun print, in a color palette I don’t normally wear, and all in a classic-with-a-twist cut.
These snakeskin boots provided an opportunity to do a little 201-level print mixing. It was a bit tricky, as the snakeskin would be right up against the scarf print. Super busy! But the neutral tones in the snakeskin matched elements of the scarf print, so it worked. A leather jacket (I’ve had this one for years and years, but River Island still makes a version of it) over the top helped break up the print and add a little toughness.

I love both these pieces. The dress will be cool with sandals come summer, or worn open as a duster over a tank top and boyfriend jeans. I’m planning on wearing the boots over skinny jeans, or maybe with a pair of denim shorts and a blazer when the weather really warms up.
