Neon is my new go-to, even for evening.
Take note: neon is back. It was all over the runways for S/S 19 and I really couldn’t be happier. As a 90s kid, I obviously wore quite a bit of it in elementary school. (Neon biker shorts, please and thank you.) And then I re-subscribed in the early 20-teens when neon came roaring back. (2013 and 2014 were big neon years for me.) Now here we are in 2019, and neon is a trend to keep your eye on.
To kick off Kansas City Fashion Week a few weeks back, I attended the Bubbly & Bow Ties launch party. Cocktail attire and an open champagne bar? I don’t really know where else I would be. I bought this dress from ASOS for several reasons: it had a flattering cut, the affordable price tag (under $100 for an evening gown?!), and the black and white would work perfectly with some punchy DayGlo accessories.
These bright orange sandals were another ASOS purchase. Just check out that square toe! 90s x1000. I wanted them to peek out through the slit in the dress, complimenting a neon bracelet and earrings (both from that 2013-14 neon era).
For good measure, I swiped on MAC’s Neon Orange lipstick. I love this shade because counter to most orange lippies, this one doesn’t make your teeth appear yellow. (MAC magic!)

This dress was so fun to wear– that skirt had all the volume! I used an old white tuxedo blazer (Express from ages ago; get the same vibe with this men’s version) as a jacket because the weather was perfect and the tuxedo element gave the outfit some extra black tie oomph.
And while the dress is obviously reserved for evening, I’ll be wearing the sandals soon with boyfriend jeans, summer dresses, and even trousers at the office. (Who says you can’t wear neon at your 9-5?) Come summer these sandals will look killer with a tan!
