Oversized Corduroy Shirt with Bike Shorts + Tall Boots.

Inching toward fall in an oversized corduroy shirt.

Is it a shirt? Is it a dress? I don’t know, but it’s a game I play often. Today I’m staying in the beige lane but keeping it edgy in an oversized corduroy shirt, a pair of bike shorts, and tall boots. (It’s officially tall boot season, guys!) I bought this shirt at the same time I bought the Fleetwood Mac t-shirt dress from a few weeks ago, so clearly my mind was on all things oversized.

Bike shorts have been a total staple in my quarantine closet; my around-the-house uniform is pretty much a t-shirt or crop top with a pair of these bad boys. I wanted to see about styling them for a less casual (but still not fussy) outfit. And here we are!

The tall boots are a new addition; I have ’em in brown but really loved this taupe-y gray color. They work beautifully now in early fall, but will also be so pretty with winter white sweaters come December and January. Shop similar versions here and here.

The color palette is super basic here, but I dressed it up with accessories. I’ve been loving this chain link necklace; it layers nicely with anything dainty. I filled my fingers with delicate gold rings, like this set from Shashi.

Let’s chat ways to remix: I can see this corduroy shirt worn as a jacket with a bodysuit and a pair of faded Levi’s. It would also work half-tucked into a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans with an ankle boot or even a sneaker. I might even try it as a dress with Spanx leggings or tights; it could be a fun utilitarian spin on the fall dress.

This is one of those outfits that I put together and wonder if I can pull off– will it work? Will I look ridiculous in a good way, or just ridiculous? Either way, I’m game for taking fashion risks and I encourage you to be, too. They’re just clothes! Have fun with ’em.

  1. I do the same thing with boots-I need them in all the shades and shaft heights! Girl needs options! This is such a fun transitional fall outfit! Stretch wearing those shorts out just a little longer!

  2. It’s so fun to play with pieces and put together outfits that you might not have thought about before. I think this outfit looks great. I’m actually not a huge fan of corduroy but I think I may need that shirt!

  4. Super cool look, Ashley! I am loving the oversized corduroy top and those boots are magnificent! I think I might prefer a short denim skirt or cut off denim shorts to the bike shorts but that’s just me. You pull it off brilliantly with the bike shorts. Also, I think the shirt with super opaque tights and boots would be absolute perfection! Thanks for linking.
