Olive Green Shorts Suit.

80s Camp Counselor, but make it chic in a shorts suit.

The 80s trend has been around for a bit– and while I’m mostly on board (like here and here) I’m surprised at how fully I commit to the vibe sometimes. Take this linen shorts suit, for example. Hello there, Mom Waist. No matter, I’m digging it. The longer cut of the shorts make it feel very camp counselor, you know what I mean? The olive green is definitely leaning into that, as well– but a longer hem means you can actually wear these shorts to the office (whenever we return to offices, that is).

Staying in that neutral lane, I grabbed a tan tank (a Zara find, but this one is very similar), a camel pump, and a camel statement earring. (Looks heavy, but these gems are made of leather so they’re super lightweight.) The result begs the question: am I going on safari? Or leading campers to the mess hall? Who really knows, but I’m 100% into it.

Shop the look:

This olive green shorts suit breaks apart, of course. The blazer is a classic cut, and the linen means you can easily wear it all through spring and summer. I’m thinking of pairing it with bright white denim or over a floaty black summer dress. It’ll play casually or at the office, and can even work well for a date night (whenever, you know, we get to go out for date nights again).

The shorts can be worn in their full Mom Waist glory (as I’m doing here), or you could wear a bit of a longer top and keep it untucked. Swap out pumps for sneakers if you’reΒ really into that camp counselor vibe, or go with a flat sandal to keep things comfortable but polished.

  2. Ever since I learned about the history of linen (it was fashion’s dominant fabric until cheaper cotton replaced it), I’ve been attracted to it and wanted to use it. So I’m predisposed to like your outfit right off the bat. And seeing what you’ve done is interesting. Clothes cannot be evaluated simply by themselves; alchemy occurs when they’re combined with the wearer. You, inherently youthful and hip, transform these pieces into a fun, playful romp. I like it!
