Taking advantage of mild fall weather in corduroy culottes.

You know those fall days where temps break into the upper 60s and you can leave your jacket in the car? This was one of those days. No rain, all sunshine, and warm enough to ditch the layers. I still wanted a fall vibe, so these olive green corduroy culottes were the perfect piece to build an outfit around. I slipped into a white bodysuit (yep, that’s totally a bodysuit!) and those tan suede booties I’ve been wearing lately.

I scored both the bodysuit and these corduroy culottes at Kindred Shops inside Oak Park Mall, but I’ve linked similars here for all my non-KC readers. I love the high waist and lightweight cord fabric of these trousers! They work nicely over the bodysuit, but I can also easily layer them with slouchy sweaters. I can’t resist anything olive green, really.

Are you getting some pretty fall weather in your neck of the woods? Kansas City has (thus far) lucked out; we’ve have some really nice stretches of lovely fall weather: crisp + bright leaves, sunshine, and not-to-chilly temperatures! I feel like the last few years have been the opposite, with it turning super cold too fast or spending weeks on end in a rainy pattern. There really is nothing quite like a beautiful fall day, and I’m pretty jazzed we’ve had so many this year!

    This outfit demonstrates something I’ve often admired but rarely had conscious understanding of — how items that ostensibly could be worn by a man or woman emphasize and flatter the wearer’s femininity by their subtle differences from menswear. Like the shortened length of these pants (actually culottes), the tight fit of the shirt (actually bodysuit) and buttons. You come across as beautifully female while wearing clothes that could, in theory, be worn by a man. It’s magic!

    1. This is something I have not often thought about consciously but definitely play with in terms of my style. I lean toward more androgynous styles often, but you are calling out a new level of attention and it’s so true!

    1. Thanks so much, sista- and isn’t this weather crazy? I’m glad we’re getting a warm-up tomorrow + next week for Thanksgiving! Winter will be long enough, lol.

    1. I didn’t think I could pull off the style at first, but I’ve warmed to it- they definitely work if you add a bootie with a bit of a heel!

  40. Ah yes this is how October use to be mid to upper 60s at the start of the month and upper 50s to low 60s to close the month but now it is a free for all hot one freezing the next. These green culottes are great. I am wearing culottes today! Faux black leather!
