Mustard Floral Dress for Late Summer. | LSR

Mustard Floral Dress + Gray Sandals with Gold Earrings.

A mustard floral dress that hints at fall while keeping you cool.

The back-to-school fall vibe is everywhere, am I right? KC won’t cool off until at least late September, so I’m balancing milking my summer wardrobe while adding in a few fall-esque elements here and there. A mustard floral dress walks that line perfectly– the rich color definitely fits with a fall feel, but the dress itself is a lightweight summery piece that works in August.

I sprinkled in some gold jewelry to the mix– it’s just too humid for anything heavy. I am a huge fan of delicate gold earrings (like the initial earring I’m wearing in this post) because they add so much polish to a look without weighing you down. Classic, cool, and goes with everything.

A gray suede sandal with a stacked heel brought out the tiny touch of gray in the dress; these sandals are so flattering. I usually limit wearing anything that wraps around the ankle (unless it’s with jeans) but these sandals hit low enough that the leg line isn’t completely truncated. You can score ’em right here (on sale) and in other colors here and here.

Even though I’m sweating it out in KC right now, I’m thinking ahead to fall and how to remix this mustard floral dress. It would look so cute with a leather jacket (like a classic moto) and tall boots (a lot of amazing options here). You could also layer a thin neutral-colored turtleneck under the dress, or a chunky sweater over the top. Remixability (a word I just made up) is high with this mustard number.

Is mid-August miserable for you in your area, too? I swear you can cut the air in KC with a knife this time of year. On the day we shot this look, you walked outside and it felt like an actual sauna– complete with steam. My windows were all steamed up first thing that morning! On days like this, shooting fast is the name of the game; we need to wrap each look as soon as possible because my makeup/spray tan/mood are melting away by the second. While I love summer, the KC humidity is why fall is such a breath of fresh air.

  1. It is SO hot and humid in STL, too. We have to set the camera outside a little before photos or the lens will fog up… and, we do have to shoot quickly since I have naturally curly hair. I love this mustard color on you and how perfect will that dress be in the Fall with some fun layers once this heat is OUT of here! lol!
