Getting into the holiday spirit in a snakeskin dress.

Welcome to Feast Week! Thanksgiving is this Thursday and I’m more than a little bit excited for cranberry sauce, wine, pumpkin pie, more wine, and candied yams. But before all the feasting begins, let’s talk (more) holiday fashion. Specifically, dressy holiday fashion. Some families and events eschew the casual and go all out– which I love. We usually go casual for one event (Thanksgiving or Christmas) and then get a bit dressed up for the other. This snakeskin dress is the base of my more formal holiday outfit– come on, you know I’m not one to resist rocking this trend at any opportunity!

Before I hop into the details, I want to share that this whole look can be found in the holiday issue of Kansas City Homes & Style, where I’ve launched a new column. The Closet. Back into outfit mode: this snakeskin number is so easy to wear. The shirtdress style means there’s plenty of room to snack all day with the family before tucking into a hefty plate of Christmas dinner. I added a black blazer with a satin lapel to make the dress more formal and used a tall faux suede black boot (last seen here) to bookend things. The boots added another element of oomph to the outfit while also keeping my legs warm (bonus).

And because I had to add just a little holiday glitz, I chose a bright red lip. This super-saturated gloss by NYX is a gem (and a steal).
