Green Satin Prairie Dress + Snakeskin Boots.

Holiday chic in a satin prairie dress and 80s-style snakeskin boots.

The holiday countdown is on! Do you know what you’re wearing? I’ve got a few ideas on deck. First up? This green satin prairie dress. The cottagecore trend was big this year (you saw me wearing it back in March and September) and now I’m seeing it through with a Christmas vibe.

The satin gives an immediate glam effect, as does that rich, holiday-friendly hunter green. But the tiered ruffles and floral print are clearly Little House on the Prairie. I love how they play together in this super affordable number.

A tall boot (bonus points if it’s slouchy) and a long dress have been another popular style combo lately. I wanted to add some edge and interest, and these snakeskin boots did just that. (Get a similar pair here or here.) Oh- and don’t forget warmth! No open-toed anything here, it is December, after all.

A pair of gold hoops and a statement pendant necklace add a little holiday sparkle without going overboard. And voilà! I’m ready for a Zoom Christmas with the fam.

I’ve been snapping up more and more satin pieces lately. I used to slag off satin– but that was in the days when we were wearing things more tailored and closer-fitting. Skintight satin had a tendency to crease and wrinkle, and that created lumps and bumps where there were no lumps and bumps when worn in a bodycon fashion.

The satin pieces I’ve been buying are similar to this satin prairie dress: looser, more bias cut, oversized. This gives that satin room to move– and isn’t that pretty, billowy movement the whole point?– and also keeps wrinkles from forming as easily.
