Free People Sweater + Spanx Leggings.

A cozy oversized sweater and the best Spanx leggings.

Hello there, 2020! I’m baaaaack! I took a much-needed end-of-the-year break from blogging + social media over the holidays to recharge. (Oh, and celebrated my 35th birthday, thanks very much.) Now I’m back with a fresh outfit made up of a few of my current favorites: an oversized sweater and the best leggings on the planet.

I have this Free People sweater in both black and white– it’s that good. The mega-slouch factor is right up my alley (who really wants anything body-con post-holiday eating season?) and the tunic length means it works perfectly with leggings.

These Spanx leggings are the business. High-waisted, lots of compression without being too restrictive or uncomfortable, and I love that faux leather shine. (It’s more flattering than you think.) This combo worked really well on a warmer-than-usual January afternoon.

A pair of sneakers finished off this look (these are super cushy and work both inside the gym and on the street). I love the ease of this outfit; it’s comfy enough to lounge around in, but can easily transition to a lunch date or a casual meet-up with your pals.

So how did your holiday season go? I really enjoyed my little break; the blog was quiet from about mid-month through today, and I even took a social media hiatus during this time to really decompress. It was all about unplugging, spending quality time with the people I love, eating amazing holiday food, and drinking all the wine. Quite lovely, if I do say so myself.

My birthday was New Year’s Eve and I celebrated with close friends and family. It was amazing! Nothing like ringing in a new year with all the people you love most on the planet. Now it’s fully 2020 and it’s time to jump back on the grind.

It’s so wild we’re kicking off a brand new decade. It feels like a really good time to take stock in what you want, why, and how you’re going to get it.

I’ve been setting some intentions for the next year (or ten) and doing quite a bit of soul-searching (for lack of a better word). What do the next 35 years of my life look like? Who do I want in it? What will I do with that time?

Funny enough, all this reflection and soul-searching has led to exactly zero resolutions for 2020.  Ha! Manifesting the life you want really can’t be done in a few silly scribbles you make before midnight on December 31st, right? I’m more about that long game, which requires tweaks and pivots to the game plan as you play.

Wishing you all a happy new year! Stay warm out there!

  1. Welcome back beautiful! It’s always nice to take a break and come back nice and refreshed. Loving this casual chic outfit. I keep hearing such good things about those Spanx leggings that I think I need to grab myself a pair.

  2. Happy Belated Birthday! How cool that you can celebrate your birthday with the start of the NY. I wish you all the best in 2020.
This is a lovely casual styling. The white sweater looks so cozy paired with leggings and sneakers.

  3. The happiest (slash belated) of birthdays to you! It sounds like you had a wonderful break. I feel you on looking for looser style pieces. I somehow really overindulged, though I didn’t feel like I did! Must be what getting older does to you. Sigh. I haven’t really set any intentions for the New Year, let alone the next decade. My birthday is a little over 2 weeks away, and I’m about 1 year younger than you so reading your post it really resonated something from within. I’ve always had the same 5 year plan, since I was 19 and it’s time to really take stock of life and where I really want to be headed. It’s actually kind of exciting to rethink what I thought I had wanted/doesn’t really serve me these days.

    1. Yesss, winter birthday babes! The whole reflecting + thinking about intentions for the next decade has really been a thing for me the past 6 months. Life doesn’t have to be what society tells you it does; life can be what you make it. And if something doesn’t fit, if something doesn’t match your authentic code, you can drop it. (Or gently release it, whatever works, haha.)

  4. You look so comfy chic in this style, Ashley! And I just got a pair of those Spanx faux leather leggings too. I know what you mean about how perfectly they fit! I’m glad you had some time to unplug and recharge. I did a bit of that myself. And HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, girl! I can’t wait to see what you’ll bring in the next decade…but I’m with you…I never make new year’s resolutions. I just try to be a better version of myself and keep working towards those long term goals. Happy New Year, my darling friend! 🙂
