Floral + Polka Dot Swing Dress with a Jean Jacket.

Remixing some old summer faves for a new look.

I had an appearance on Better Kansas City the week before last and I needed something bright, fun, and summery.  Short dresses are one of my go-to’s come summer, so this floral + polka dot swing dress stood out. (It last appeared on the blog in 2014!) It checked all the aforementioned style boxes and would look great on TV when worn with a structured jean jacket.

I’ve had this jean jacket since high school. (I am not kidding; the left elbow is patched because I’ve worn through it!) It’s a style that translates to today: fitted + a bit cropped, with some nipping at the waist to define things. While you can’t travel back in time to the early 2000’s to get this exact jacket, this one is a killer dupe.

If you are a size 8 (I am, and these run true to size), hurry up and grab these exact wedges from Amazon– there’s one pair left! I scored ’em at the end of the summer last year and never got the chance to wear them; fitting they’re one of the first pairs of summer shoes I’m wearing this season.

Lots of oldies-but-goodies in this look, but hopefully the current pieces I’ve sourced will help those of you looking to snag it. I had just rotated my seasonal closet, putting away sweaters and hauling out summer dresses, so this polka dot swing dress immediately caught my attention. It’s lightweight enough to keep you cool (the swing factor helps!), but the material is heavy enough that you don’t have to worry about a gust of wind blowing it up around your face (always a nice touch).

If you want to watch my segment (we chatted royal style comparisons between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, as well as royal style rules!), you can watch it right here.

  3. Your old high school jean jacket still looks amazing. I still own some pieces I’ve had since high school as well. And those wedges are so fun — they go perfectly with your swing dress.
