Fall Go-to Outfit: A Sweater and a Slip Dress.

Still leaning on that slip dress collection.

The oh-so-90s slip dress had a real style resurgence this past spring. They were everywhere, from date night looks with strappy sandals to casual fare with a tee layered beneath. Now we’re taking this dress right into fall by layering a chunky sweater over the top. Cozy without being stifling? I’m listening.

Taking a cue from my own playbook, I slipped on a pair of sneakers with this slip dress and sweater combo. Now we’re talking comfort.

I’ll be dipping into my slip dress collection well into November. How? Once we get our first hard freeze, I’ll swap out the sneakers for a tall + slouchy boot to keep those legs warm. And adding a pair of fleece-lined leggings to that mix (concealed by the midi-length dress and tall boots) will up the warmth factor so you can practically wear this outfit all winter long.

The summer-to-fall transition period is almost complete– it’s now full-stop fall. We’ve already started stocking up on Halloween candy in our house because Halloween will be here before we know it. (Our new neighborhood has quite a few more kiddos than our old ‘hood; Dave and I are still trying to figure out the logistics of 3 noisy rat terriers and trick ‘o treating.) The mornings in KC are crisp and we even dipped into the 30s at the end of last week! Fall has most certainly arrived.

  5. Fabulous! I styled a slip dress today too. When I ordered it I also ordered a sweater to wear over it so it would take me into the cooler months- if we actually ever get any here in FL! Thanks for sharing this with the Style Six Link Up!

  6. Ashley, this sweater looks like the most comfortable thing ever! And I love the shade of olive green. I also adore slip dresses but they never fit me quite right. Back in the 90’s though (before I birthed babies), I could totally rock the slip dress! But now I am wondering if I layered like you if I could pull it off. So cute made even cuter by adding sneakers! Great look and thanks for sharing on my link up!
