Fall Floral: Suit and a Shirt as a Dress with Chevron Fishnets.

Breaking up a fall floral set into two completely different looks.

Fall floral on deck! I picked up this set from H&M with the idea of wearing it as a chic suit. A quick tuck and it could easily go to the office (if I had an office and didn’t work from home, but you get it) or leave it untucked for a pajamas-but-better vibe. When it arrived, I realized the shirt (tunic?) was really long. Although it did still tuck nicely into the pants– the print easily hides any weird lines and the fabric is silky so bunching is minimal– it also worked as a dress. Remix time!

Yes, those slits are high. But I’m short (5’5, hi!) so we were only flirting with indecency rather than openly courting it. To add some interest, I slipped into a pair of fun patterned tights. Hello, chevron fishnets? I’ll play. They provided a quirky contrast to the busy floral print and added a pseudo-layer as a distraction tactic.

Accessory check: black patent pumps, square hoops, and a fistful of rings. Oh, and a new pair of sunglasses. I am pretty in love with these babies (a little gift to myself in celebration of the new job). Yes, they’re stupid expensive– but the style is classic and you can find a dupe here for under $20.

So how do you feel about the printed pajama set? I’m really into it and may just have to snag a few more versions via H&M asap. This fall floral is perfect, but there are a few other prints I’m digging. I like the idea of affordable pieces like this that don’t feel “fast fashion.” The quality is very good, the slouchy fit feels more modern, and the ability to break the set apart and remix it several ways stretches your dollar.

Speaking of slouchy, the fit of this ‘fit makes it a prime candidate for the holidays. You could totally Thanksgiving in these pants or this shirt-as-a-dress. Plenty of room for cranberries, turkey, and pumpkin pie!

  1. How bold and amazing of you to mix and match prints with the tights and the dress! I love fashion and finding new cool combinations and you’ve absolutely nailed it. Thank you!!

  2. Two different styles that look great. A very elegant Autumn Floral. The tights are a charm and are perfect in this look. A sweet kiss, dear Ashley.

  3. If you’ve got 5 inches on me then this shirt would be super long on me! Lol. I do love the entire set though and how you styled it as a dress with those fishnets. I always forget that I own a similar stockings. You’ve inspired me to break them out and style it up!

  4. My respect for your fashion choices is deep but beyond that there are qualities you display that impress me even more. The first is how you think about clothing. Wow! Your ideas, metaphors, careful and studied analysis: they attract me like catnip. I wish I could think like you.

Second, your expression! Few use language as beautifully. With all my schooling and experience I haven’t come up with a clever phrase like “the fit of this ‘fit.” And turning “Thanksgiving” into a verb?! Brilliant!

  5. What a fun set! It looks so good as a set but you do rock the tunic as a dress so well! The print and colours are lovely for autumn.

Hope that you are having a good week 🙂 It’s another rainy and stormy day here!

  6. OhMyGod stobbit! I love All These Brown Florals Everywhere! I feel like I might have had something similar in my 20s…matching ditzy floral loungey pants and top..or maybe it was a billowy skirt? I can’t remember exactly, I can just remember loving it and loving how I felt in it…and you LOOK like I felt!

    And a two-fer? Such a win!

You’re looking like a fall floral goddess….and I’m headed to H&M to see if there’s something similar for me!
    xoxo Bettye
