Extra LSR: New Year’s Eve Birthday.

Celebrating my birthday + NYE with pals at the new house.

Longtime LSR readers might know that New Year’s Eve also happens to be my birthday. Normally, this results in huge celebrations: closing down bars in velvet paisley suits with a bunch of friends or throwing a glamorous masquerade party with lots of pals and sequins. This year, however, I wanted to keep the celebration super low-key. Moving and unpacking followed by Christmas celebrations left little time (and energy) for throwing a huge bash. Chill and casual was just what I had in mind. And what better place to have it than at the new house?

After the extreme nakedness of last year’s outfit, there was nowhere to go but more clothed. I wanted something slouchy, lived-in, but still glam enough for New Year’s Eve. What’s a birthday girl to wear? A striped sequin suit with a faux designer tee and mule loafers, of course.

Our new kitchen and living room are part of one giant open space, with makes for much easier entertaining than the old house. Everyone can be in the same room and not also be on top of each other! We had a spread of snacks and an ice bucket of with an assortment of beer + wine for friends and family, and Dave picked me up a pink champagne buttercream cake.

I only put 5 candles on the cake because no need to set off any smoke detectors, am I right?

I pulled out my Instax camera to take a few shots of the evening. I honestly meant to take more, but the night sort of got away from me with all the talking, laughing, and catching up with pals. (These are typically indications of very good nights, and this New Year’s Eve was no exception.)

The combination of an abundance of champagne (both in quantity and consumption) and something about christening the house (like a boat…?) led to me sabering the top off a bottle to ring in 2019.

I mean, this is 100% how normal people celebrate, right?

It was quite the lovely, low-key birthday. And the house was ready just in time to entertain a few friends! I am ready to get back into a normal work + life routine now that we’re settled in and the holidays are over. It’s time to tackle a new year.

I hope you all had a happy new year and are starting off your 2019 in healthy + happy places!
