Extra LSR: Living Room Tour.

The living room is up next in the home tour series.

I just did a little summer refresh for my living room and it occurred to me I hadn’t given you guys a tour of this space yet. No time like the present!

I packed up the heavy faux fur throws and fur pillows and snagged some new, more summer-appropriate pieces. A palm print pillow cover, a lightweight gray throw blanket, and a few printed canvas covers remixed the space with a warm-weather spin.

Since moving back in December, my decor goal for the new house has been to skew it more modern. And for the new living room, I wanted a statement piece of furniture with a modern feel in a bold color. The high ceilings and big windows made this space perfect for a square configuration around a center coffee table with a brightly-colored accent chair as the standout piece. Something in hunter green velvet had been at the top of my list, so when I found this chair I knew the rest of the room was going to revolve around it.

The dream chair.

It wasn’t my plan ahead of time, but once the green chair was in place I realized how much it set off all the plants I have in this space. I’m quite the well-documented plant lady (just take a look at my office), so this is all very on-brand. Bonus: the gold arms + legs of the chair work with all the gold accents in the rest of the room, like the marble and gold coffee table.

Another item I wanted for the living room was a floor mirror. This exact one is sold out, but I love this one and this one and they’re both right around $100. You might recognize this mirror because it’s where I take most of my #ootd snaps for Insta stories. The bright morning light makes it a good place to get a shot of my ‘fit before I leave the house.

I also added a pot with a pothos plant (seriously one of the easiest plants to grow) and a little seagrass tealight holder, which I snagged as part of my living room refresh.

A floor-length mirror was a must. My dress is sold out, but similar versions here, here, and here.

One of the best decisions we made was to put a furniture-style kennel for the girls in the corner of the living room. They can hang out inside with the door open while we’re home and it’s big enough for all three of them to be inside when we’re gone.

Speaking of the girls, Brina had a sequin pillow made from a photo of them. It’s one of those mermaid pillows you can run your hand over and it changes colors. Photo of the pups on one side, gold on the other. Too cool, right?

I like that despite the modern look and feel of the house, the fireplace is still a classic brick. I added a few marquee signs that were part of the decor from the old house and then propped up a cool piece our friend (and realtor!) made for us as a closing gift: a framed design sketch of our old house on top with a design sketch of our new place on the bottom.

And that’s the living room tour! I really loved putting this room together when we moved in; I had been daydreaming about decorating it from the moment we put our old house on the market. This little summer refresh was just what it needed for summer– and not too expensive. I spent about $100 on the pillow covers, throw, and seagrass tealight holder and that was all it needed to change the feel of the living room.

Programming note: the blog will be a little quiet the rest of the week as I’m taking a bit of a vacation over the long holiday weekend. I’m not going anywhere tropical or glamorous, but just taking some time to work on house projects, hang out with pals, and celebrate the red, white, and blue. I’ll be back next week ready to roll with new content for you! Hope you have a happy + safe 4th of July!

    1. A few pillow covers later, and the room has a brighter feel! Green was good because I already had the velvet chair- and the whole project was easy + not too expensive! 🙂

    1. That style of crate is so key for keeping the space chic- imagine if it were a normal wire-type crate? I love the bright white and how big it is- all 3 girls snuggle in during the day while we’re at work!

    1. Isn’t that chair a head-turner?! I knew I had to have something like it when I was shopping for accent pieces- it really jazzes up the room! 🙂

  1. Ooh, I love a home tour! What great light you have in your living room with those giant windows!

I’ve longed for a green velvet sofa for. EVER. But with the animals I knew it would be a mistake. But someday!

And what a gorgeous mirror. I’m without a full-length mirror currently and I feel it every day. I’ll go into a store fitting room and be like Oh! THAT’S what I look like?? Ha. I really need to remedy that, pronto – thanks for the reminder.

Enjoy your little break – hope you have a fun holiday!

    1. I loved the idea of a statement velvet couch, too- but totally had the same thought: dog hair! The accent chair is nice because you get the same effect but the girls really don’t jump up on the chair (they’re more keen to jump on the couch with us or on the bench where they can see out the windows).

I’m so glad you like the room! We are loving it, too. 🙂

      Happy 4th of July!
