Extra LSR: Currently…

Spring has sprung! Great time for an update.

Ding, dong, winter’s dead! We can finally put a nail in that seasonal coffin and I really couldn’t be happier about it. (Watch: this post will jinx it and we’ll have one of those freak spring snows here in a week.)

As I’m doing a little spring cleaning around the house, I figured a little spring update was relevant here on the blog. Let’s gooooo!

Puppy check-in: the girls are loving the new home, including this chunky girl, Abby!

Eating: This really yummy (and easy!) taco soup recipe. It really kept up going during that last stretch of winter and has now become a Sunday staple. I like to add a dollop of sour cream + sliced avocado to mine. You can add tortilla strips to the mix for some crunch, too, or keep it low-carb if that’s your jam.

Drinking: Lots of coffee with chocolate protein. I love this protein drink as a creamer substitute; the vanilla is good, too! It’s low in sugar and carbs, plus it tastes good. I don’t think I’m quite adjusted yet to Daylight Savings. (I love to fall behind, but really loathe springing ahead– although it is nice to have longer, brighter evenings again!)

Watching: Game of Thrones. With the final season premiering on April 14, Dave and I started back from season 1, episode 1 back in March. We’re almost there! It’s been fun to re-live all the old seasons (except for all the excessive dire wolf/horse death, ugh) and pick up on clues and bits we had forgotten. We’ve been working to get the downstairs living room finished (TV mounted, new couch situation, sound system, the works!), and it has been so much fun to hole up down there and binge.

Fun fact: Dave and I went as Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen two years ago for Halloween! I found some clip-in extensions from Amazon and they ended up working like a charm to create her long blonde locks.

Going: To Kansas City Fashion Week this weekend! We actually kicked things off last night at the Bubbly & Bow Ties party in the Crossroads, and then all my fashion-loving friends and I are hitting the Saturday night finale shows. KCFW is always a blast!

Loving: Slowly incorporating spring clothing into my wardrobe. Neon is making a huge comeback and I’ll be doing lots of it as part of my KCFW outfits. I scored this tee and these sandals from ASOS and I’m pretty sure that my 1999-loving ass is going to be wearing them nonstop now that it’s actually warm.

A recent brunch expedition with Cait, where we both turned up in leopard. You’ll see more of this skirt later this week!

Working:  On finalizing my speech for KCMEDIAMIXER‘s April Event, Lemons 2 Lemonade. I’m the keynote speaker! KCMM is a local influencer group that rounds up local like-minded creatives and gives them a space to network, learn, and grow. I’m so excited to spill everything about my blogging journey, from how I built my brand to establishing a content strategy, and everything else I’ve learned in the last 9 years. It’s going to be amazing and if you’re around KC next month and want to go, tickets are still available!

Listening: To Gucci Rock ‘N Rolla by Snakehips feat. Rivers Cuomo + KYLE. Easy, breezy, feel-good beat!

Buying: Blinds + shades for the new house. Now that the decor is set and in place, it’s time to cover those massive windows. We’ve installed roller shades in the living room + kitchen area and it’s made a huge difference. I love how they roll up super tight to the top of the window so you can really maximize the light when you want to.

Roller shades for the win! So chic, right?

Planning: Outdoor projects for the spring and summer. We spent the winter nesting and decorating inside our new house and now it’s time to tackle the outside. I’ve got a pretty blank canvas to work with; the landscaping is very bare bones. I 100% transported those huge hostas from my old house (they’ve been sitting in huge plastic bins in my parent’s walk-out basement since) and will be finding a home for those once we’re in the full-stop spring clear.

Wondering: How I should switch up my workout regimen. I’ve been exclusively spinning for over a year now, and somehow during the move, I abandoned my lifting routine. (Packing boxes as a weights substitute? Something like that.) I need to add that back in, and I’m thinking of taking up running again. I successfully trained for and completed my first (and to date, only) race last year and while I don’t have another one in my sights, I think getting outside and logging a few miles here and there might shake up my cardio.

Feeling: Beyond pumped for a new season. Winter was so long here in Kansas City, you guys. There is something so exciting about a 7-day forecast that never dips low enough to require a heavy coat. Spring is just so hopeful. There’s a ton to look forward to: outdoor happy hours, everything green + in bloom, and the promise of summer. I am ready!

Thanks for swinging by for this spring update! I’d love to hear what you’re up to right now– and if you have any recommendations for what I should be watching, eating, or buying!

  2. I love that you went as Jon and Daenerys for Halloween! 🙂 I’m also very excited for Game of Thrones to return, but to be honest I can’t deal with it actually ending… At least there’s still the Blurays! Oh and I absolutely love your coffee table by the way, so jealous
