Extra LSR: Beauty Room Tour.

Giving you a tour of the beauty room.

We’ve been in the new place now for a few months and I’ve finally got my beauty room organized + unpacked. Who wants a tour?

The beauty room is a bedroom I’ve converted into a space that houses hair, makeup, accessories, and shoes. I chose this room primarily for all that crazy good natural light, courtesy of the huge double windows. Perfect for makeup application!

Love this standing mirror– just what the room needed! (And snapped this shot before I added the round area rug.)

Beauty Room: Shoes.

I have a lot of shoes, so I require a lot of shoe storage. In the future, I’d like to take that far wall and build floor-to-ceiling shelves so I can have them all in one place, but for now, I’m relying on creating shoe towers with these stackable shelves. They’re affordable and easy to assemble.

I organize my shoes by type and color. Sneakers, mules, sandals, pumps– I try to group like with like so it’s easy to find what I’m looking for. Ankle boots (and anything too tall to fit inside the shelves) are organized on top/at the base of each tower.

I have a few boot butlers in the closet, which is where I also keep extra handbags (using these hooks) and flip flops (in the Sterlite drawer set). I haven’t fully decided how I’m going to use this space, but this organization situation will do for now. It’s not quite as functional as I’d like, but it’ll do for now.

I also have a smaller shoe rack for neutral and black heeled sandals and pumps. These are always in heavy rotation, so I keep ’em together.

Beauty Room: Accessories.

I have an old kitchen island (a piece I salvaged from my college days!) that I use as a place to keep all my jewelry. Acrylic drawer sets, different ring dishes, bracelet holders, and necklace stands perch here bring some order to my collection.

A white floating shelf adds another level, and I use these Command hooks to create more hanging space under the shelf.

The accessories counter.

Little glass bowls normally reserved for the kitchen make for nice countertop storage, by the way. I also bought a stack of these acrylic organizers and use ’em for rings and earrings.

I got this cube storage unit from Target and filled it with teal bins. I keep clutches (top row) and flat sandals (second and third rows) here. There’s another bin to the side that has even more clutches and smaller handbags.

I bought several of these acrylic displays for my sunglasses. Seeing my sunnies means I’ll actually rotate ’em out and wear ’em! I hang my hats above with simple Command hooks. No wall damage!

Cube storage for flat sandals, clutches, and then hats + sunglasses above.

This belt (or scarf) holder from Amazon was a great find.

I tuck a magazine holder behind my chair and use it as a base for all my camera stuff. My DSLR, extra lenses, tripods, camera bags, etc., all fit nicely in this spot.

I shoot with a Nikon D5300 and this 50mm lens if you’re curious.

Beauty Room: Hair.

I like to keep my bathroom as streamlined as possible, so I store all my hair stuff in the beauty room. A Sterlite drawer set holds extra brushes, hair ties, clips, different barrels for my T3, and acts as a stand for my hair tool station. The station has metal-lined holes for your dryer, flat iron, curling iron, etc., to safely slide into.

I use a couple plastic bins to hold all my styling products. (Yes, it’s a lot. No, I do not use these after every wash, ha.) They store under my accessories counter for easy grabbing.

Beauty Room: Makeup.

The main focus of the beauty room is my vanity. I have 2 sets of the Alex drawers from IKEA and then the top is the Linnmon table top to bridge them together. The workspace this combo provides is legit; plenty of room to work and plenty of room for storage.

I use several acrylic organizers on either end of the vanity, a few smaller acrylic pieces to hold various beauty goodies, and have this lighted mirror in the center.

If you’re curious how this breaks down, item-wise, here is a rundown of what’s in each section (left to right in the below collage):

  • Acrylic drawer set: concealer, brow products, eyeliners. I keep my favorite MAC lippies on top of the set, as well as mascara and liquid liner.
  • Q-tips (probably the handiest beauty tool ever!) in a round container. Products I’m really loving in the long acrylic container (right now it’s a Charlotte Tilbury foundation and a few Pixi blush + bronzer combos). In the acrylic trio, I keep a nail polish remover pump filled with Ben Nye makeup brush cleaner. (I spot clean after every use and the pump makes it so fast + easy.) There’s also a few travel-sized hand creams, hand sanitizer, and a few other bits I reach for frequently.
  • I keep much-loved eyeshadows for everyday use in the acrylic set under my mirror.
  • I keep shadow palettes I’m loving (right now I’m all about Urban Decay’s Backtalk) in an acrylic holder. I also keep my brushes visible on the vanity top in an acrylic container.
  • Beauty Box: highlighters and highlighter palettes, BB creams, primers, and setting powders. I store smaller, detail brushes and lip liners on top.

Vanity top: lots of acrylic containers to keep everything organized.

Let’s dive into how I have the vanity drawers organized… Below is what’s on the right side. I use these dividers to create different pockets of space for different lip colors.

Right side drawers 1-3: lots of lippies and shadows.

Right side drawers 4-5: shadows and extra supplies.

The left side of the vanity is divided up, also.

Left side drawers 1-3: foundation, bronzer, and blush.

Left side drawers 4-5: miscellaneous bits (phone cases, gum, DSLR attachments, tape measures, portable chargers, etc.) and palettes.

Beauty room hack: I keep a roll of toilet paper and a push-top Windex multi-surface cleaner just to the right of the vanity. I use the toilet paper and some Ben Nye brush cleaner to clean my brushes after each use, then use more toilet paper and the Windex to wipe down the surface of my vanity. This keeps everything clean and tidy, as well as disinfected (especially important for brushes). The toilet paper is an easy + cheap cleaning option.

To the left of my vanity, I have another Sterlite drawer set that houses nail polish, a lipstick tower on the top, and a few key fragrances (the rest are still in a box, waiting for me to sort shelving in the bedroom where they’ll eventually live).

  1. I’m loving the color palette of your room, so fresh and airy! I’m also loving your shoe collection, girl! I’m a size 8, are we a match?! 😉 Lol! Thanks for sharing your storage with us. Everything looks so easily accessible and visible, which I know must be incredibly helpful when getting ready.

    1. Ahhh, you’re so sweet, gf! And I know when you guys are back in a house you’re going to create an amazing space!

  3. I like the storage that you have, I recently reorganised my wardrobe now it’s time to do the beauty area. I want to condense it since there are loads that I don’t use anymore. Looks so amazing! Lovely dividers, too. Thanks for sharing.

  4. just one word of caution….I had made a similar closet and I too love natural light; however, my shoes did not. The sunlight faded and ruined several pairs of canvas shoes from my summer stash! I hadn’t even thought about it!
