Blush Duster and a Body Shaper for Valentine’s Day.

Who says body shapers are a base layer only?

What are your Valentine’s Day plans? Whether you’re going out or keeping it close to home tomorrow night, I’ve got an outfit idea that works just about anywhere. I started by busting the myth that body shapers are only to be worn under your clothes. This black SKIMS body shaper is super sleek + slimming, but it’s also perfect as a bodysuit.

In keeping with the Valentine’s theme, I took a blush lamé Zara dress and wore it unbuttoned over the bodysuit and a pair of high-waisted Levi’s. How to toughen it up? A much-loved pair of black ankle boots. Accessories? A new pair of neutral earrings from the latest Nickel and Suede collection and a light pink crossbody bag.

Speaking of this dress-as-a-duster, here’s how it normally looks. I actually wore it with vinyl cowboy boots for my birthday. (The boots are still available and on super sale, btw.)

Don’t sleep on the SKIMS line: this body shaper doesn’t pinch or roll up, and it provides nice compression while staying comfortable enough for all-day wear. And with a metallic rose gold duster situation on top? You’ve got yourself a sexy recipe for Valentine’s Day outfitting success. And these Levi’s! Classic wash, the perfect high waist, and enough stretch for major comfort. My Levi’s addiction lives on.

Dave and I have our usual V-Day plan all set: sushi followed by an action movie (Birds of Prey). Last year, he took an early flight home from his Africa trip to make our Valentine’s date happen. Bring on the Godzilla rolls, plum wine, and lots of Harley Quinn tearing things up on the big screen.

  1. That outfit is adorable. I think I prefer the dress as a duster, but it looks good on you either way!

I agree with you, I think that the SKIMS products are great, and are more versatile than the average shapewear!

  2. I read a long article on Kim’s new SKIMS line in the Business Section of the Sunday NY Times. It interested me in her products. Glad to see you wearing one. I’m considering buying some myself. I have Spanx but want to try alternatives.

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

  3. I just LOVE this dress worn like this. I know this trick but I always forget to do this. Thanks for the reminder Ashley,

  4. that blush dress is beautiful and looks great as a duster on you! 🙂 I’m not a fan of shapewear on myself though, so I’d probably just wear this with a tee or tank – don’t need anything hot and clingy on a humid day, hah! I’m all about comfortable clothes 🙂

    Hope you’re having a lovely weekend 🙂

  5. This blush dress works so well as a duster. I really like how you styled it with Levi’s jeans. You look great. Your V-day plans sound great. Sushi is always a good idea!
I didn’t go out this Valentine’s day, I was exhausted after work, I just stayed in but it was a very happy day for me. All the kids at school were really excited about Valentine’s day, there was this fund-raising action where they sold their art. I actually got flowers from my students for V-day, that was so sweet. My husband got me some candy and we prepared and ate two meal together. My kind of Valentine’s Day!

    1. Aww, so cute that your students got you flowers! So sweet of them! I hear you about a low-key Valentine’s- there’s nothing wrong with staying in and staying cozy!

  6. Love your color combination and your clever item pairing! The body shaper looks gorgeous on you and so feminine and it really is an amazing staple in your wardrobe!
