The end of August in Kansas City usually means rampant humidity, where summer’s last gasp comes in the form of dew points in the 70s. My styling MO this time of year attempts to balance looking cute with wearing as little as possible (within reason). I like to reach for lightweight pieces like these blue striped shorts.  They’re roomy and are made of linen, so the breeze factor is high. As much as I love my denim cutoffs, they can feel too heavy when the humidity is high.

A bodysuit with a deep scoop neckline is nice basic with a little edge. This one isn’t too tight or restrictive, making it actually comfortable to wear. (Shop similar versions here and here.) Nothing I dislike more than a bodysuit that ends up riding all the way up in your lady business because the garment’s not long enough or is too tight. This one is comfy enough for all-day wear.

Lengthening those legs with a pair of nude sandals is a trick you know I employ often. I’ve been wearing these sandals all spring and summer long, but you can snag really similar versions here and here.

I worked in more of those blue tones with these French blue Nickel & Suede earrings. The main part is made of leather, so they’re so lightweight. (August note: keep everything as light as possible, even your earrings!) I’m also loving this gold initial necklace.

Another tip for beating the late-summer heat: minimize heat styling! I don’t do that many blowouts around these parts, but in weather like this, I’ll let my hair air dry (I’ll even skip the diffuser step explained in last week’s curly hair tutorial). Anything to save me from sweating post-shower under a hairdryer!

Stay cool, pals!

    1. Haha, me too- we try to limit our time outside to the evenings when things cool off enough that the humidity isn’t so bad. But sometimes we just hole up in the house for days and days with the AC!

  1. Ashley dear, I can only say that you always look great. This time is no exception, I love the shorts that really look perfect with the bodysuit. As a lover of shoes, I can only say that I adore them and that the color is of great refinement. The watch, the glasses, the earrings all perfect my friend. Kisses for you.

  3. Having lived several years in Wichita, I know the humidity you are discussing. Ugh! That is a super cute outfit. The linen shorts almost have a skirt silhouette, which makes them look a little dressier than some. Lovely!

    1. Haha, Kansas humidity does NOT mess around! You know! I love the volume of the shorts- you’re right, it totally gives it more of a skirt effect!

  4. How have I not hopped on the bodysuit train yet – loving this look! You look amazing, and it’s perfect for the August heat. And YES to air drying your hair, it keeps it protected and hassle free <3

    1. Bodysuits are total JAMS for voluminous shorts and dresses! I also love ’em with jeans because they always stay smooth and tucked in!

  5. Hi Ashley, love the shorts! They look great how you’ve styled them with the mules. So join the #chicandstylish #linkup today. Would love to have you. Jacqui Mummabstylish
