A blue floral dress with long sleeves and tall beige boots for early spring.

Spring weather calls for spring florals. Predictable? Sure. But it feels fun (and appropriate) to slip into a flowery-something to celebrate surviving (literally and figuratively) another long, cold winter. Today I’m twirling around in a blue floral dress really suited for early spring weather.
As excited as we all are for warmer weather, you can’t just jump straight into tanks tops and strapless dresses– especially in the Midwest, where mornings can hover in the upper 30s and blustery afternoons bring an actual wind chill. This is where finding some spring pieces that aren’t full-blown 4th of July is really key.
The sleeves and high neck on this blue floral dress not only add a little bit of warmth, they anchor the look more in spring than summer. Belting the waist adds some structure to an otherwise super breezy dress. My exact dress is from last season, but I love this (super affordable!) version.
Another way to keep things on the early spring side? A tall boot. I know, I know– we often shove our tall boots to the back of the closet after March. Resist the urge! Tall boots and a short dress is a classic combo that works in both fall and spring. Lighter tones, like this goes-with-anything beige, are an easy choice– but don’t think you can’t still get some use out of your tall black boots right now. You absolutely can! (Shop similar styles here and here.)
I kept the accessories pretty minimal in number and instead relied on a turquoise statement necklace as the core piece. I really like the way the turquoise blends into the floral print–it keeps an otherwise very loud necklace on the subdued side, which is a fun element to play with.
Shop the look:
You could add a boyfriend blazer in white or beige over the top of this dress to add structure and polish. And even though it’s on the early spring side of styling, you could absolutely wear this dress to a summer wedding or a bridal/baby shower, especially if the festivities took place in the AC-cooled indoors.
And speaking of weather, I’m beyond happy about all the spring weather KC has been having recently. Nature is waking up after a long winter as the grass greens up, hyacinths and daffodils push up from the ground, and the trees start budding. This makes logging steps around the neighborhood a much more enjoyable experience. Hope things are getting spring-like where you are, too!

The tall boots do look so pretty with the dress! I have had to wear boots several times at Easter because it has been chilly. I just added a floral wrap dress to my closet and have already worn it twice.

A floral wrap is so smart! And I hear you on the boots- if my legs are cold, I am not a happy camper, haha. 🙂
I look amazing! I love florals for spring, it’s cliché but it really works.
YOU look amazing! lol
Thank you so much! 🙂

That is a gorgeous dress! I love it with the tall boots as well as all of the ideas you’ve given! And, I hear you on the weather in the Midwest! We had snow on the roof last week and highs in the 60s today! We have all four seasons here in Central Indiana in one week!!!

Haha- I feel this, Marsha! Yesterday we had snow flurries and the high was in the 40s, but today it’s sunny and going to be in the 60’s. The Midwest just can’t make up its mind! 🙂
This is darling!
SO hard to dress this time of year! You want to look springy but it’s still SO COLD! You nailed it here 🙂

It can be so tricky- like all the stores are trotting out SUMMER stuff and I’m over here checking the 5-day forecast and there are morning/evening temps in the 30s. No ma’am! I will not freeze for fashion, lol.
This dress is so cute!!

The prettiest dress for spring! Love how you paired it with that belt <3
The belt really helped create a little shape- sometimes you just gotta define that waist, haha!
You are so right, we need to keep those boots out! They provide the perfect transition from tights to full bare legs. That dress is super cute on you!
Especially here in the Midwest when you know the seasons swap back and forth from winter to spring, haha. 🙂 Thanks, Laura!
I love a pair of neutral boots like this! The dress look amazing with them.

Yes! Neutral boots for the win! Happy Easter weekend, Kathrine!
I love this outfit and it’s subtle nod to winter, it really is like waking up and emerging back into the world. I love the long sleeves which still keep you warm on the cool days and mornings of spring. Super cute with the belt, I think that added a lot of dimension to this outfit. Happy Easter weekend.
