Color Block Pastel Button-up + White Loafers.

Channeling my inner 80s dad in this color block pastel button-up.

Nothing says “Easter is nigh” quite like pastels. These colors are typically my thing, as I tend to reach for more saturated hues, but this color block pastel button-up was too fun to pass up. It reminded me of every dad in the 80s and early 90s, cruising around the Easter egg hunt in their Sperry’s.

I wanted to create an outfit that alluded to the retro element of the shirt’s origin while also feeling modern. I half-tucked it into a pair of Levi’s 501s and slipped into a pair of white loafers. The pointed toe helped the shoe feel more 2000s than 1980s– although those style loafers are in, too– and round Ray-Ban sunglasses finished the look.

Shop the look:

C’mon, how breezy and cool is this outfit? All the slouch here keeps the vibe relaxed and not Uptight Country Club. Busted knees help, too. A flat loafer is the right combo of comfort and polish that goes anywhere and never feels out of step with the dress code.

I am going to be remixing this color block pastel button-up, for sure. An oversized fit means this shirt will work well as a bathing suit cover-up or worn open over a bodysuit and cutoff shorts.

Speaking of remixing… Want to dress this look up? Swap the loafer out for a white heel. Toss the 501s and opt for a straight leg without the distressing. Want to dress this look down? Sneakers > loafers are your play.

The Adults Aren't Alright Season 1 Finale, Episode 10: Breaking Up With My Job + Perfection ParalysisThe Season Finale of The Adults Aren’t Alright: Breaking Up With My Job + Perfection Paralysis.

You might’ve read that I left my job of nearly 15 years back in the fall. This was a deeply terrifying leap I made after years of being unhappy– why did it take me so long to make the move? I put that under the microscope in the season finale episode of the podcast.

A term you’re probably familiar with: imposter syndrome. The feeling you’re a total fraud at whatever you’re doing and people are bound to find out. A term you might not be familiar with: perfection paralysis. It’s the inability to start something new (like a hobby, a job, etc.) because you’re not “perfect” at it yet. This is compounded by social media, where everyone seems to be “perfect” at everything. You’re comparing your Day 1 to their Day 100 and you think you can never get there, so you don’t even try.

I struggled with both of these issues when it came to my career. I was terrified to leave because I was convinced I wasn’t actually that smart and another company would surely see me for the absolute fraud I was– plus I wasn’t perfect at my new job yet (even though I had no idea what that new job would even be!) so I shouldn’t even look. Stay small. Play it safe.

Not anymore! Sharing those fears and how I broke through ’em in the episode, which you can here or on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google.

  1. You are rocking this chic look! Love your button-up! I can’t wait to listen to the season finale! I have been at my current job for 19 years and recently accepted an offer from a new company. Tomorrow is my last day! It’s scary but I’m super excited.

  2. You’re right — pastels are natural for you. They reflect your innate femininity, a trait that’s highly attractive and part of your essence. It’s a reason we all gravitate into your orbit.

Looking forward to hearing your new podcast episode. Humans often hold themselves back because of psychological impediments and you identify two important ones. We can overcome these obstacles but only through understanding them better. Addressing them is smart.

    1. Aw, thank you so much! And yes, that’s really true- we often get in our own way with insecurities and doubts that are actually totally unfounded. I think talking about them helps- and helps people know that they aren’t alone in feeling that way sometimes.

  3. What a coincidence – the topic of your new podcast – for some random reason I was just this morning wondering how your “new” job was going. Then I couldn’t remember if the “new job” was like 4 months ago or two years ago. Cuz old.

    Cute top!

    1. You are not old! And it was at the end of September- but that kinda FEELS like 2 years ago, because time is so weird now, haha.

  4. Hi!
I love your pastel look! I love colors, all colors, I feel good with pastel colors as well as vibrant colors. Your styling is modern and cool at the same time. As for the topic of your podcast, I also suffer from the same, stepping out of the comfort zone can be a puzzle!!

  5. I enjoyed listening to the podcast episode and found the concept of “perfection paralysis” interesting and relatable. Hope the new job is everything you were looking for…I’m sure you’re rocking it! Also, this shirt is really taking me back in the best way.

  6. That button up is so cute! I also really like how you tucked it into your jeans. It might sound funny, but I’m always looking for creative ways to tuck in blouses/shirts. Depending on the technique, it can really elevate a look (like the look you’ve featured)!

Also, I totally hear you on experiencing imposter syndrome. It can be so difficult to battle that feeling of inferiority, especially for women. I’ve found that it sometimes helps me to literally remind myself of what I’ve accomplished and learned to help me feel more confident in my abilities.

  7. You look so fresh and pretty dear!
This pastel button up shirt suits you so well. I love how you styled it with Levis and white loafers.
    Simple but perfect!!!!

  8. Super cute shirt! I never had imposter syndrome, but I did have perfection paralysis as a child and young adult. Basically, I denied myself new experiences for fear that I wouldn’t be perfect at them. It took awhile, but I eventually worked my way out of that mindset.
