Black Silk Blouse with Faux Leather Shorts.

Pulling a pair of pumps out of my college shoe archive and breaking in some faux leather shorts.

There is something really classic and powerful about an all-black outfit. Any season, any occasion– you turn up in head-to-toe black and it makes a statement. I employed that styling trick here with a pretty, draped black blouse over a pair of faux leather shorts. I know what you’re thinking– leather in June? But hear me out: this pair is slouchy with plenty of legroom, which means you don’t feel like you’re suffocating.

I also used this outfit as an opportunity to pull a pair of shoes from the archives. These patent leather pumps were a go-to of mine in college (yes, you read that right: college) over ten years ago. The triple platform was storming the style scene and designers were competing as to who could design the most dangerous shoe. These platform puppies put me well over 6′ tall– which means that’s a solid 6-inch heel. Okay. (Want a pair of your very own? These and these are super similar.)

I will not lie to you: I had to re-learn how to walk in these while we were shooting this! And even then, it was more of a baby giraffe hobble than a true walk. How did I dance the night away in these shoes in my 20s?! Nonetheless, they do create a killer leg line, so we’ll forgive the fact they’re an actual death trap.

All I needed to accessorize this look was a few gold touches: I have been living in this necklace duo from Sierra Winter lately (you can see it in last week’s post with a more casual outfit here). It’s such a luxe way to add some interest to an outfit. I’ve also been all about this Uncommon James ring. Makes a statement and can be unhinged to wear all the rings individually.

I love this outfit for a date night situation– now that restaurants are slowly starting to open up, it feels the perfect thing to throw on for drinks on a patio bar. It also works perfectly with a black cotton face mask, which I will be wearing out in public on the regular until we have a vaccine hammered out for this COVID-19 situation.

  2. Oh my gosh, those heels are killer (figuratively and literally, I suspect)! I have some like that too and honestly couldn’t imagine wearing them for a whole night anymore but you’re right, they complete the outfit perfectly. You look perfectly edgy in this all black outfit, Ashley!

  3. You look SO chic! I love those shorts. And haha I’m in college now and I could never dance in heels that tall. I’m horrible at walking in heels so even a giraffe hobble in those killer shoes seems like a success to me!

  4. Whoa, this look is smoking hot! You look fantastic and you are absolutely right about an all black outfit. There’s nothing quite so mysterious yet so chic about a black outfit. Add some killer pumps, and yes, absolutely stunning! I hope your week is going well so far and wishing you a very wonderful 4th of July weekend!

  5. I love it too And the idea of leather and silk is fantastic Love the overall look and the textures although so different became absolutely gorgeous together and I would wear leather in summer as I find it too cold for winter It does not keep me warm I had to add several layers to actually wear it in summer so I am totally pro leather in warm days Top to toe stunning xoxo Cris

  6. You look great, an all black outfit really does add that classic appeal and I love the twist on the classic black outfit with the materials. I feel the same way as you when I get out my old heels, it’s a learning curve to get back into them.
