Can’t leave the leather jacket at home, even for a 20s-themed event.
When your good friend + fellow blogger is co-chairing a 20s-themed fundraising event (go Cait and team Take 5!) for the Junior League of KC, you immediately begin hunting for something Gatsby-esque. If you’re me, it’s a blousy striped sequin dress (from Tularosa on serious sale right now), silver sandals (from NYE!), and a diamante gold head chain– and then you throw your favorite leather jacket over the top. Adding a tough edge to an outfit is what I do, and honestly, this jacket is pretty much a security blanket at this point. A super dark + vampy lip helps set that 20s mood, too.
Shop the look:
I hit Take 5 with my best friend (and photog), Brina. The event was at The Brass on Baltimore, which was gorgeous and definitely in-step with the Gatsby theme. Just check out that chandelier!
We met up with Cait at the event and immediately hit the bar (priorities). Cranberry Moscow mules? Okay, thank you. Next we cruised by the food offerings: butternut squash raviloi, cupcakes, soft-baked pretzels (a personal weakness of mine; thank God the dress wasn’t fitted!), and a killer cheese, veggie, and hummus spread? That’ll have your girl coming back for seconds.
The boys from Battery Tour were DJing the event; I had never had the pleasure of seeing these guys live. AY and his crew are so much fun! Dancing, singing, emceeing, playing all the best songs– they got the crowd going and by the end of the night, everyone was on the dance floor.
It was such a fun night! And it all went to a great cause: fundraising for the Junior League, a group of fierce women dedicated to community service.
My dress was such a smash– not only was it comfy, but that asymmetrical hem + thigh slit combo was so fun to war. The cold-shoulder was a fun touch and added a little extra oomph to the look. (I did take off my leather jacket at some point in the night, believe it or not.) And the room to eat, bless! Thank the fashion gods I wasn’t in some skintight number– I ate too many yummy pretzels.
I didn’t think I needed a pair of strappy silver sandals (until I wore an all-metal silver dress for my birthday, that is), but these Schutz bad boys are getting quite a bit of play. (Wore them here as part of the outfit I wore to judge the Transformations Charity Gala back in January.) If you need a pair (wedding season will be here before we know it!), I highly suggest ’em. I also love these versions with a chunky heel.
