Wardrobe Classics: Striped T-shirt.

A striped t-shirt is cool with leather and a statement necklace.

Remixing the classics– like a striped t-shirt and skinny jeans– is a surefire way to keep your wardrobe fresh without getting too trendy. I’m all for test driving all the new-and-now buzzy pieces, but incorporating timeless elements ensures outfitting success. I put a boxy leather jacket (an old Victoria’s Secret score, but current dupes right here and here) over the top and added in some oomph with a huge (and heavy, ha) statement necklace and suede pumps. A gold cap toe feels pretty cool right now, doesn’t it? The result is a go-anywhere outfit that can be worn again and again.

Victoria’s Secret leather jacket (almost exact here and here, and love this one from Target) // H&M t-shirt (similar here and here, and in a bunch of colors here) and jeans // Dolce Vita pumps (similar on sale here and here; also love these navy pumps, these camel pumps, and these burgundy suede pumps) // BaubleBar necklace (on sale for $26!) // Ray-Ban sunglasses

What I love about classic basics like this striped t-shirt and skinnies is the serious go-anywhere remix potential. This outfit is great for dinner dates, out-of-the-office work gatherings, or going out with your girlfriends. Outfitting arithmetic: subtract the leather jacket, mega necklace, and pumps + add sneakers and a bomber jacket. Now you’re super casual (but still polished) for doing the Target-mall-grocery run or grabbing a few drinks at your neighborhood watering hole for the game. Sub the skinnies for a pencil skirt and add in a classic pump? Now you’re elevating that striped t-shirt to most office dress code standards and can do happy hour and dinner after, no problem.

  1. You had me at striped shirt! This is such a great look, the leather jackets goes so well with the stripes. I love that you included easy ways to transform the shirt for other outfits/activities, too. So good!

  2. I absolutely love a cute striped shirt with skinny jeans. I blame Kate Middleton… but it’s definitely one of my go-to looks. Love that jacket on you, too!

  3. I only have one striped t-shirt in my wardrobe at the moment but I have worn it to death. It is my fail safe, go-to for whenever I am stuck for something to wear and I love that it can be dressed up or down like you have mentioned here 🙂 x

  4. I am the mast of the striped shirt. I was terrified of horizontal shirts and thought they made me look bigger, but that’s just an urban myth lol. I have at least five leather jackets. I love to mix and matching them in the winter month. Looking good Ashley.
    xoxo
