Surprising Summer Staple: The Utility Jacket. | Ash from LSR

Utility Jacket + Cutoff Denim Shorts with Ankle Boots.

This utility jacket is always part of my travel wardrobe.

I’m making the case for the utility jacket today. Yes, it makes total sense worn over a t-shirt and jeans come fall, but this is actually a spring + summer staple, as well.  Where it comes in most handy? Summer outfitting, especially when it comes to vacation. A utility jacket is the perfect piece to wear on travel days (as airports and planes are forever cold); it layers nicely over a tank or tee and lends a cool vibe to a basic look.

Once you land, the utility jacket stays in my style rotation. On a recent trip to Denver, I used my utility jacket as an added layer over a strapless eyelet crop, my favorite Agolde shorts, and a pair of brown suede booties. Perfect for running around downtown Denver, popping in and out of air-conditioned shops and restaurants without adding bulk. I could easily slip in and out of it because it slung so nicely through the strap of my crossbody bag.

In addition to being a bomb layering pieces, the utility jacket lives up to its name: it’s functional. Those oversized pockets are perfect for holding a cell phone, a small card holder, and a lip balm. The coverage is nice, too– it added some balance to the very-bare strapless top and short cutoffs when I needed it.

How do you feel about utility jackets? Do you own one?

  5. You constantly impress me by taking routine pieces and transforming them into stylish ensembles. Your alchemical magic has, I believe, to do with the way you mix stuff, creating a look that’s attractive and fun. I wonder how you learned to do this?

    1. Thank you so much, friend! I am so glad you like this look- and honestly, it’s all gut instinct for me, which- I think- plays out because I’m also not afraid to get it wrong. An outfit doesn’t work? Oh well, I’ll just get dressed tomorrow and try again, haha. This frees me up, allowing me to try stuff in different ways- or at least, near as I can tell. 😉

  6. This is such a great look-I absolutely love a good transitional piece, especially in Alabama where the weather is temperamental and you never know when you might need a cute jacket as an extra layer!

  8. I adore utility jackets for the same reason – they are so versatile and perfect to travel with! I just got back from Atlanta and wore mine on repeat!

  9. That’s such a cute jacket and it goes great with your shorts! I love ankle boots and shorts too, so few days of the year here where the weather is right to wear it, but I take advantage of it when I can! 🙂

Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂 We had a quiet one as we are all a little unwell from another round of winter bugs!
