Wearing a Duster for Summer. | Ashley from Le Stylo Rouge

Striped Duster + Ankle Boots.

A striped duster makes for breezy summer layering.

Kansas City isn’t quite the sweat box we’re used to in July (yet!), so I’m taking advantage of the cooler temps by working in a fun layering piece like this striped duster. It adds a little something extra to a basic tank and cuffed denim shorts combo. I love the way the duster floated around in the breeze; that movement is so pretty! The balance between the duster’s length and the hem of the shorts works, too. Rugged ankle boots give a little boost to the leg line and ride that boho vibe. (My boots are much-loved ol’ faves, but score similar versions here, here, and here.)

I love the soft, faded blue of the striped duster; it’s a nice change from all the bright blue I’ve been wearing lately. Isn’t the embroidery at the shoulders fun, too? Very cool placement. Somehow, this piece doesn’t feel too feminine or girly– I helped balance it going with a tougher shoe and keeping the rest of the outfit really simple + basic. Hope you enjoyed this look!

PS shop more from the Billy T line here; I love it! Everything is super lived-in, soft, and easy to rock for summer.

  1. I have a couple of dusters hanging in my wardrobe that I have never even worn. I have just felt like the weather hasn’t been quite right – either too hot or too cold! I love the look you have created here though and I am going to just have to brave it and dig mine out sooner rather than later I think or they will never get worn at this rate! x

  2. The way a garment feels and moves is usually under-appreciated. It’s a true sensuous pleasure. As someone coming from male clothing which never has this feature, I savor it deeply. I’d wear this duster just for that reason but, even better, it’s beautiful! You have such good taste.

  3. I have to admit, the weather in the Bay is pretty back and forth. Sometimes it’s true July heat and other times it’s pretty chilly. I think I’ll need to get a duster like this one. Loving the pink and blue combo by the way.

    1. Nights can get cooler here in KC, even when it reaches the 90s during the day. It all depends on the humidity, lol. So having a duster and some lightweight sweaters laying around is never a bad idea!

    2. Yeah isn’t the weather here crazy! like 110 one week, barely 70’s another! This would be a great piece to add to the closet! Love your styling Ashley!

  4. We haven’t had horribly hot weather here yet either! It has been a nice change. I am sure we will pay for that soon! Love this causal look. That duster looks SUPER soft, which is a high priority for me.

    1. I’m loving the fact it hasn’t been a sweltering sweat pot in KC, too! Haha. I’m sure July + August will be different- but in the meantime, bring on the cooler weather!

  5. I love the duster + jean shorts look, perfect way to work summer layers! I know it will get super hot soon but I’m soaking up the mild weather while I can!

  6. I’m a sucker for a duster and this one is 👌! The stripes, embroidery, soft colors of peach and blue….and then the booties (wow) were the perfect touch of tough! Just so lovely.

  7. What an adorable duster! I love the stripes! So glad you’re enjoying some nicer temps in KC!! I’m curious what the weather will be like once we get back to STL after vacation!
