Transitioning to spring in some 2021 trends.

New season, new wardrobe! Well, not really. These days it’s more about remixing old pieces– because hello, where are you really going?– and it’s always cool to stretch your closet. But winter is officially over and we’re celebrating with some spring trends in the March/April issue of KC Homes & Style.
Just because the calendar says spring, it doesn’t necessarily mean warm temps here in KC. We play a balancing game between winter and spring here until about mid-April. Sprinter, if you will. One day it’s 70 degrees, the next it’s 45. You want to work in spring trends, but you also need to stay warm.
Bright pastels are a 2021 trend– think Easter, but with a hint of neon. Rather than mint, go with tennis ball green. Rather than lavender, choose a more electric orchid. Speaking of tennis ball green, I built this outfit around this top. The color says spring, the turtleneck keeps you warm, and the lightweight knit means you can wear it well into summer.
I’m wearing another trend you’ve been seeing quite a bit around here recently: wide-leg jeans. They’re back today, this time with a houndstooth blazer over the top. Houndstooth was everywhere this winter, but for spring the print gets super small and very neutral. Choose a cotton blend over wool so you can still wear it when it warms up.
Remember what I said about that balance between winter and spring? I grabbed a pair of strappy sandals with a bright green strap. The sandal screams warmer weather and that heel helps lengthen the leg line (a must for us shorter girls trying out the wide-leg trend). A baby blue pedicure (that I gave myself!) helps celebrate spring, too.

I’m definitely ready to remix this blazer with a pair of cutoffs come summer, and this turtleneck will be super cute layered under a slip dress. I need to dive back into my spring closet and see if I have some more bright pastels to work into the mix, too. I like the added punch they give a look– they’re just a bit edgier than your classic pastel palette. What other spring trends are you loving?

Such a fun transitional look, Ashley! Love the neon green! Those sandals are fabulous too, girl!
