Plaid Blazer + Sporty Floral Blouse.

Print mixing doesn’t get any easier than a plaid blazer and anything floral.

Shooting content for the blog is wild these days, guys. 1) It’s usually the only time I put on “real” clothes + a full face of makeup and 2) I want to name every post: An Outfit for Whenever We’re Allowed to Have Events Again. This plaid blazer is super cute, but it’s not exactly the loungewear we’re all accustomed to as we shelter in place.

It’s okay, though, right? There’s nothing that says you can’t take COVID-related social distancing super seriously and also earmark an outfit for later. That’s where I come in. Print mixing can seem a little scary at first, especially if you’re more of a neutrals and solids type girl. But this combo– plaid and floral– is really easy, I promise.

The plaid here is subtle (like this, but you could go bolder in this), so it almost passes as just a gray blazer. It works with the black and white tones in the burgundy-based floral blouse (which is so old– like 2014 old!) for an updated, casual Friday outfit whenever the COVID-19 fog lifts.

I went a little matchy-matchy with the burgundy pump (almost exact version here + on sale), but we shot this on a gray-ish chilly spring day in KC and it felt more appropriate than something lighter or brighter. I would totally swap this out for a bright white pump if I was looking to play up the warmer vibe.

These jeans have been in the blog rotation lately (see ’em with a blush chenille sweater right here). Such a great cut + shape, and they are stretchy enough to almost rival leggings. Almost.

I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy– and still washing those hands!

  1. Well, this is adorable! And I really feel no differently about looking at fashion during covered than I do at other times. Honestly, because of my size, I can so rarely wear most of what I see anyway. I just file things away in my mind for inspiration at a later date.

And I’ve been wanting to wear my blazer, I got it late in the fall last year so I didn’t have a lot of opportunities then and I was looking forward to winter turning to spring, to get to where it again. So I’ll probably be wearing mine inside the house one day soon too!

Hope you’re staying safe and well, Ashley!

    1. Yes, let’s go Team Blazer! It really does add a lot of polish to a look- even if you’re just hanging around the house! I think I might try dressing “normally” a few days a week and see how that goes- it could definitely help me feel a little more put together!

      Stay safe, Bettye!

  2. I love this whole outfit. Pinned it for later so I wouldn’t forget. It’s perfect for a casual Friday workday or just for doing some errands and grabbing brunch on a weekend. I’ve actually been thankful for the blog for getting me dressed, as it’s easy to fall into a sluggish mood when I stay in my jammies too long. 🙂

  3. Our lives have been turned upside down and that’s stressing out most people. I find solace in seeing the things that haven’t changed — like your blog! The simple fact that you’re still posting (and wearing great outfits) gives me comfort that the world is still okay and will return to normal. Thanks for that.

    1. Aw, that makes me so happy- that’s what I’m hoping to do: offer a sense of normalcy (safely!) in a time of super weirdness. 🙂

  4. Ooh, I adore this outfit, Ashley! Glen plaid is a great print to mix with bolder patterns, especially for beginners because it is so subtle. And I hear you on wanting to tag every post as outfits to wear later. That is definitely where I am these days as well. The struggle to get dressed in an actual outfit is real. Which is funny for me since I usually get dressed every day and see no one anyway. This new way of living is really no different for me! Well, except for the homeschooling part. Thanks for sharing your fun looks and your positive attitude with us!

    1. I’m sure you could write a book about your homeschooling adventures! It seriously is such a wild time- I love the working from home bit, even if it was a bit chaotic at first. But I’m also looking forward to getting dressed and going out to dinner when the is all over and it’s safe to do so!

  5. I never thought we’d see something like this. But I do know you are beautiful and I love the pop of floral!

    1. It’s so weird that I only really put on “real” clothes for blog shoots- but it also feels good to put on a new outfit!

  6. I just love this floral top and the burgundy pumps match it to a ‘T’! Yes, I am so ready to be able to get dressed up for my outfit photos and then actually really go out again after (for dinner or whatever!). Ahhh, we’ll get through this, right?!
