Olive Green Monochrome Holiday with Brown Loafers.

A holiday outfit that’s still festive without being too on-the-nose.

Did the holiday season sneak up on anyone else? I’m floored Thanksgiving is Thursday– the last half of this year just flew by. Now it’s time to figure out what to wear… Are you ready for a holiday outfit that is festive without shouting “party?” This olive green monochrome look is exactly that: chic but still seasonal.

I started with a cropped cable-knit cotton sweater. I love this one from Aritizia (almost exact here) because it’s cozy without being too heavy. The cropped length keeps the proportions clean next to a high-rise, pleated, wide-leg trouser. Modern look, with no sweater bulk to be found.

The lightweight front-pleated trousers have plenty of movement– comfortable for standing through cocktail hour or sitting down for turkey without feeling pinched. And loafers are having quite a moment, so that made for a solid shoe to endcap this out. I discovered these for a steal and can attest they’re made for all-day wear.

Final touch: a sculptural corded pendant sits close to the collarbone and gives the monochrome outfit a contemporary finish. Monochrome palette, timeless shoes, and easy accessorizing? Works every time.

This olive green monochrome look is part of the holiday issue of Kansas City Homes & Style (digital issue right here). It’s one of those versatile outfits you can wear all over town. Next I plan to swap the loafers for a kitten heel to dress it up, or maybe layer a thin cashmere tee under the sweater if it’s super cold outside. Little swaps, big payoff!
