Mustard Polka Dot Prairie Dress.

Jumping into a cute prairie dress for early summer.

Prairie dresses are having a bit of a moment right now. Think super floaty and lightweight, midi-to-maxi length, in both solids and retro classic prints. This mustard polka dot prairie dress is hitting on all those notes, complete with a floaty hem that gives it a distinct boho feel. I also love similar dresses in this same pretty mustard color (a huge trend lately!) here and here for a steal.

An all-over print means I usually keep the accessories to a minimum, but I really wanted to wear these new statement earrings from Bauble Bar. (Psst, they’re sold out, but these are a killer dupe.) Love the clean, shiny gold and interesting design. I’m still wearing that Madewell necklace set, just pulled out the medium-length necklace for a solo run.

I love these white sandals, but if I had this outfit to do over again, I’d probably wear something with just a bit of a heel. A low wedge, perhaps? Something to give my legs just a bit of length. This totally worked for an easy summer outfit, but I feel a little stumpy in photos. Blogger pals, does this happen to you? Something will play just fine in the mirror + real life, but it doesn’t photograph quite as you’d hoped? This isn’t a total miss for me–and others might not even notice– but it’s one of those things that make you say, “I swore that looked different in real life…”

My pals and I are off to Boulevardia tomorrow night in the Stockyards District of KC. Beer, food trucks, vendors to shop, live music, a Ferris wheel + yard games, and all the fun. I’ll be covering it over via Insta stories if you want to follow along!

  1. I’ve never owned a prairie dress but I can definitely see the appeal – this looks like it would be great in the summer heat.

The disconnect between the way some of my outfits look in the mirror versus how they appear in photos happens all too frequently to me – it drives me nuts!

    1. Haha- RIGHT?! Sometimes stuff just translates better in real life vs. a camera. And you don’t even REALIZE until you get to the editing stage, haha. 🙂 Happy Friday, sista!

  2. In love with this dress and how fabulous it looks on you! Cutest prairie girl I ever did see! Happy weekend babe!

  3. I always have loved the color mustard…it’s great for all seasons and with the polka dot print it’s so retro! Pretty dress, girl!

    1. It really IS an all-season color, and I don’t think I grasped this before this summer! 🙂 LOVING it right now!

  4. I adore that mustard yellow dress. I love the pattern and the length. There is something very romantic about it. I do love those Hermés styled flats but I would choose to wear heels. But just for comfort sake, I think these sandals are a perfect choice.

  5. This is a gorgeous dress I have really been liking yellow and mustard, I recently picked up some yellow pants and want now to get a top or dress. You don’t look stumpy at all. But I know what you mean. Except for me it is my face hahaha. I have a long angular face and this gets very exaggerated in photos it is just how it looks through a lens. I look somewhat different IRL but can’t change it haha!

  7. Hi, Ashley.
I have to confess to you that I don’t like polka dots, but I have to admit that the dress is wonderful … without the polka dots ahahah

    1. Haha, polka dots aren’t for everyone! This dress would be SO cute without, too! I’ve linked a few in the post that actually don’t have polka dots- you should check those out! 🙂

  8. Such a cute dress!! And yes! Regularly I love the look of an outfit in the mirror and then I look at the photos and start scratching my head, like, how did I miss this??? I do however like the sandals with this dress if it makes you feel better:)

  9. This polka dot dress is beautiful and I am loving the mustard color! Yellow is having a moment and I can’t get enough. I actually like this dress paired with your white sandals. It has that effortlessly chic vibe! I am also kind of stumpy to begin with so flats work for me since I am not a heel type.
