Confession: I’m 5’5 and pretty bitter about it. I’ve always wanted to be just a bit taller– from my high school days on the volleyball court to today when I watch models come down the catwalk, making anything look amazing on their tall frames. However, the road for short girls is paved with tricks to look longer and leaner. Take a pair of flared denim (which are in for fall in a major way) and a wedged sandal: instant legs for days. A simple tee with a longline vest layered over the top has an additional lengthening effect. (You may have spotted this look last week on my Instagram. Hello, Casual Friday!) Fun gold accessories in the form of a cool collar necklace and a cuff with coral accents gave this jeans-and-a-tee basic outfit a bit of oomph.
Shop the look:
I’ll take all the lengthening I can get– another reason I’m pleasantly surprised flared denim is back with a vengeance. Pair those puppies with a pump or a wedge, and boom! Instant Tall Girl effect.
These jeans totally give you legs for days! I’m 5’5 too, and I actually like being this hight. I think it stems from my horseback riding days when I was younger though–at my height, I could ride the horses and the ponies!
SHORT GIRL PROBS!! 5’4″ right here… Though no one ever thinks I’m that short because I am in 4″ heels about 99% of the time! The flare jeans with heels trick is a definite go-to for me as well. Love this look 🙂
I always think it is interesting when I hear a shorter person say they cannot wear flares. I think they are so elongating not matter your height. Love how these look on you.
Totally agree- same with maxi dresses! Grab a wedge and you can totally wear ’em if your on the shorter side. Preach! 🙂
I’m 5’4 so I totally feel your pain girl! Love these jeans on you and they totally do make you look taller! I’m glad I held on to some of my flared jeans from way back when – hopefully I can fit into them this fall after I have this kiddo!

Haha I know what you mean about being on the short side. I’m 5’3″ and my fiance is 6’2″. I think wide legged pants make me look funny though because my legs are freakishly thin compared to my torso. You look stunning as always! LOVE that cuff!
you are right my dear, the road for short girls (I’m pretty short too) is paved with great tips to look taller …thank God bloggers exists

I love flare jeans, they do wonders for our figure, especially when paired with heels or wedges. This outfit is phenomenally stylish. I really like that vest. You always look stunning!!!
Looking good, pretty lady! And taller, too! I can’t believe it’s almost fall. Where did the summer go?! At least it’s cooling off here in KC:) Hope you’re having a great day!
I am 5’5″ too – and I wanted to be shorter when I was younger (and ice skated) and now, I wish I was taller! Flares are perfect for looking taller. My skinnies typically make me look shorter. Love the jean look!
I’m with you on that one, I’m 5′ 4″ and I wish I was just a few inches taller — maybe 2 or 3 more inches would be ideal! Great outfit, I just started shopping for some flair jeans but haven’t pulled the trigger yet! but its coming….!
Flares are the best! I wore them throughout college and no one could ever understand why, but hello! Leg lengthening is always a good thing! You look great!
So pretty! Love these jeans on you! I hear ya, I’m somewhere between 5’6″ and 5’7″ and I’ve always wanted an extra inch or two to be a legit tall girl instead of an almost one! XO
