I’m always game for a swingy dress, but one with balloon sleeves in a sassy leopard print? I’m all fashion ears. It’s the perfect weight worn alone in early fall, but then can be easily layered with a chunky cardigan and tights later in the season. (Get a similar version of your own here and here.)

I wanted a bit of a statement boot, so these tall cowboy boots came to the rescue. Patent leather? Check. Faux croc? Check. Love these bad boys!

I kept the rest of the look pretty simple: those timeless Ray-Bans, black classic Kendra Scott earrings, and a ring by Uncommon James. No need to go overboard when the dress has so much attitude and the boots just shine!

Race weekend was this past Saturday and OH MY GOODNESS you guys, what a ride. Dave did amazing– he finished in 26 hours (the cutoff was 30 hours) and was such a champ the entire race. Crewing for him was really fun, if not a little stressful at times.

I was essentially managing his health (food intake, hydration, monitoring any blisters, chafing spots, overuse injuries, etc.) for the duration of the race. (After you run for so long, your body essentially stops digesting whole foods, which makes getting the requisite 300-500 calories an hour tough toward the end!) I just wanted to keep him as comfortable and fueled as possible, all things considered. We did pretty well!

He had some blister issues at about mile 40 that required draining and bandaging, and then some blood blister issues (yay!) at mile 50. I had to lance that bad boy open to drain it. Fun, gross times! But we got him all taped up and he was able to power through with no additional issues.

Just after he crossed the finish line!

Some of our friends and his family came out along the stops and supported Dave. He had a pretty big cheering squad, which I’m sure helped– especially during those later miles when all he wanted to do was be done. I’m super proud of him!

    1. I remember your marathon training- there’s no way I could do what you did! I’m in awe of anyone who can run. People being around to crew and support is huge- you just have to be able to focus on one foot in front of the other!

  2. This outfit is amazing. I love leopard print and with those boots? I’m obsessed.

Congrats to Dave! That sounds gruelling but he did a fantastic job

  3. That’s such an impressive achievement – and it sounds like you offered some amazing support! On the fashion front, those boots are just perfect for that dress (which is a great piece; you know I’m always very invested in anything that involves a leopard print).

  5. Ok, I’ve done several marathons before I had children and those were tough. And they were such a mental game trying to power through. I can’t imagine 100 miles! Many congratulations to Dave! What a rockstar! And you are rocking that leopard dress! Love the cowboy boots!

  6. Ashley, you know I love me some cool and funky cowgirl boots! These are amazing. And what a darling outfit! A huge congratulations to Dave on his race as well! That picture of you two when he crossed the finish line literally just brought tears to my eyes. He looks so tired and you look so proud as you are kind of holding him up! That photo speaks a thousand words about your relationship and love, for sure! Just beautiful, my friend. Thanks for linking with me.
