A Green Dress to Celebrate Spring with KC Homes & Style.

Happy first day of spring! Time to go green.

While today marks the first day of spring, KC will still be fighting cooler temps until at least May-ish. I’m employing those transitional outfitting skills in the latest issue of KC Homes & Style so I can dress like it’s warm outside while not freezing in the process.

This green dress is such a great spring 2020 score; those mini pleats, puffy sleeves, and square necklines are right on-trend.  I layered another spring trend on top: a light-colored suede jacket. White booties (which you’ve seen before) underscore that boho vibe and further prove you don’t have to wait until Easter to break out the white shoes.

How 90s is this dress? I love the prairie feel to it, but the almost-shiny tightly-pleated daisy printed green material is definitely straight from my Gadzook’s closet of yore. It works now on breezy early spring days, but it’s lightweight enough to come in handy as a July dress. (Summer wedding, anyone? With a white strappy sandal and a bold fuchsia lip? Yes, please.)

This jacket has been in my closet for ages, but light-colored suede and leather is having a big moment this spring. (Seriously, if you ever wanted to get a blush moto jacket, this is the year to do it.) I love it with classic basics like jeans and a t-shirt, but it gives this super feminine dress some edge.

I hope everyone is staying safe + healthy during this COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic. Many of us are working for home (indefinitely!), while others are out of work until this madness passes over. The uncertainty of the time can be very overwhelming.

The most important thing is to keep yourself well. Stay home as much as you can, wash those hands, and don’t hoard supplies and/or food– it means someone who needs ’em goes without!

I work for a national medical membership organization, so my days are packed with communicating and curating quality information that can help our physician members get what they need to a) keep themselves and their staff healthy while also b) providing care to the communities they serve. It’s a lot right now, especially with the tremendous amount of misinformation (or information-hoarding, ahem) happening in the ether.

If you’re looking for something a little lighter, I’ve been keeping the KC Zoo’s penguin livestream up in a separate browser while I work. Watching these little guys waddle + swim around puts a smile on my face, despite the fact it feels like I’m staring down the barrel of a COVID-19 communications gun. 🙂

Sending you guys all the alcohol-sanitized vibes!

  1. Oooh, pretty! And, best of all, you present the dress beautifully with these booties and jacket. Your knack for assembling great outfits is probably instinctual by now but it’s still remarkable.

  2. You are a spring sensation! I got a dress almost identical to that from the loft and I just love it for spring! The suede Moto jacket adds such a cool vibe!

  3. Oh indeed I love this dress! The color and pattern are so fun and the cut is on trend for sure. Wow I bet you are busy. Yes this situation is very very overwhelming.

What a good idea with the live stream! I use to do this with a cat cafe in Brooklyn. They had a live stream of all the kittens running around and playing.

    1. Seriously, I just keep the penguin stream up on one of my monitors and periodically watch the little cuties waddle around. Makes me smile through the screentime-induced perma-headache I have with all this corona madness. 🙂

  4. What a fun dress! I hope that the virus thing goes away quickly so you can actually spend more time outdoors enjoying the weather 🙂 All our events this weekend have been cancelled.

Hope that your week is going okay with everything happening right now!

    1. All of our events have been cancelled, too- and we’re now all working from home to keep the virus from spreading as quickly. It’s a wild time! Hope you and your family are staying safe + well!

  5. This dress is so beautiful! I have a jumpsuit that’s actually kind of similar, but I really love this and would like to wear something similar sometime.

I hope that you’re staying safe during this coronavirus outbreak, and are feeling well.

  10. Ashely, this dress is bringing me new life! I love the color (my fave ever) and the tiny floral print and the prairie style. So adorable! And I love how you brought the 90’s vibe to contemporary style with the moto jacket and white booties. Thanks for sharing positivity in the world right now and for doing your job that is super important as well during this time! Stay safe and healthy.
