(Faux) Leather Pleats.

Leather (both faux and real) is a huge fall/winter trend. I found this super affordable pleated number at ASOS and started dreaming up ways to work it into the wardrobe. Bought the skirt a size up to take advantage of added length, which meant I could wear it to the office. (I love a mini as much as the next girl, but you cannot rock those in your average 9-5.)

A simple cream blouse (tucked in to give the look some shape), a spiked necklace, and classic nude pumps (also seen here and here) round things out. And for good cheerleader measure: a high ponytail.

Did you miss my guest post over at Running With Racheal? A few tips and tricks for stretching those summery pieces through the fall.

Happy almost-weekend, everyone. With low temperatures dipping consistently into the 40s and 50s here in Kansas City, my weekend plans include starting to roll my closet over from Super Summer to Yep, Finally Fall.

  1. What a great idea to buy the skirt a size up in order to get more length! I love this look for the office!

You look gorgeous as usual, and I LOVE the high ponytail. 🙂

  2. Absolutely loving leather for fall and winter! This skirt is perfect and you’re just lovely in it!

PS- I would wear this to the office, too! It’s totally professional. 🙂 People and their opinions… 😉

  3. I have been on line friends with Ashley for a while, she’s a great person inside and out, she looks amazing..but that isn’t my point. I can tell you from discussions I have had with other high ups at companies (and yes men are included in that group) impression matters and hosiery does look more professional. Can you “get away” with it in many cases now..sure. Does the industry matter as well, absolutely I’m just stating it can have an impact and in many cases it’s unspoken. Sometimes hearing another point of view isn’t the worst thing in the world either.

    1. So, essentially what you’re trying to do here is try and control the women who surround you both in person and online? Assert your authority as a man? Welcome to 2013.
A woman doesn’t have to “get away” with wearing anything, as HUMAN BEINGS — regardless of sex — we have this really cool thing called free will. This isn’t 1842. We can even vote (and have been able to for almost 100 years now)!
I don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish with this, but maybe reevaluate how you broach the subject if it doesn’t have malicious intent.

  4. Yay for more leather! Like you, I tend to size up for skirts, depending on the company. I love how you’ve mixed trendy pieces with more classic pieces for the ultimate office look.

  5. Sounds like you need to keep your “point” to yourself, bub! Obviously Ashley is going to wear what she likes, and know the boundaries of her office dress code, and can handle her style herself.

You look gorgeous, Ashley- for any setting: office included!

  6. Spirited debate today, aye? Haha. I love your style, Ashley, and this look seems totally office-appropriate to me! I think the idea that bare legs are unprofessional is pretty dated- this might still be true in some professions, but certainly not most. Or yours, since you’re the one in it! You look gorgeous, you are gorgeous, and keep up the amazing fashion work! 😀

  7. I am not trying to control anything..relax and I had zero malicious intent, I always joke with her about this and I was giving her a hard time. I also was making a point and your comparisons are absurd. Jobs have dress requirements, some more than others. It’s a bit sad that I can’t even make a comment without being attacked on here for it. You don’t like my point of view, fine. The fact is it can and does have impact in the working world and maybe it doesn’t matter in your current job but most people I know change jobs quite a few times. You never know who you will meet and what opportunities will arise from it. I am not the only one who views in an office environment that if the skirt is above knee you should wear hose and I also know plenty of women who agree.

    1. It is perfectly fine to have that opinion. But, the way you presented it was not as innocent as you’re trying to portray it.
If a workplace feels a woman should wear hose as part of their dress code, then they should make it part of their dress code.
My comparisons were not, in fact, “absurd” and I didn’t attack you in any way. Women are allowed to wear anything they’d like within their place of business’ dress requirements, and if those requirements don’t include having legs covered, then it isn’t really your place to imply she is unprofessional for not covering hers. I will admit here I’m assuming you do not work for the same company she does, and don’t actually have any idea what the dress code is in her office.
The way your post was presented indicated that you are trying to influence the way women dress, when you’ve got nothing to do with and no influence over said women. That comment, when unsolicited, comes off as offensive whether it was intended that way or not.
There are successful business women all over the place that have achieved that status in their company regardless of whether or not their legs were covered.
Much like you are entitled to your opinion, I’m entitled to mine, and I choose to disagree with both what you said and how you presented it.
Also, speaking of being attacked, calling me nuts on your Twitter account is not appreciated.

    2. I’m just going to jump in here to say that obviously your comments/opinion are not the consensus here- on this blog, which belongs to me. While you are of course entitled to your opinion, flinging it repeatedly unsolicited in the comments section is unappreciated. It’s called trolling.

To bring the topic back to your original point- that I should wear hose- I’m not really into hose, I’m probably never going to be into hose, and if that doesn’t sit well with you, I encourage you to broaden your blog horizons and hunt for a blogger who shares your taste. If indeed I ever bump into a glass ceiling and am chastised for having bare legs, I’ll say I knew you when.

    3. I agree with Sabrina. There are women who achieve in business all over the world who do not wear hose- what a silly thing to focus on!

  8. Oooo, someone’s defensive, hahahaha. (Commenter above.) Laughing because he comes to YOUR blog and tell you what you SHOULD wear, and then when other people jump to defend you, he get defensive.

Funniest thing I’ve heard all day!

Anyway, you look awesome! And definitely perfect for the office! It’s fun and chic.

  9. I just can’t get over this guy who keeps trying to start fights in your comments? Like um, hello, who is he? He can’t sit with us, lol.

  10. I just found your blog and am so excited to hear that you are from KC, too! I just moved here within the last year and am in the first few months of my blog… so it’s fun to find other people in the same community! Following you now so we can keep in touch 🙂

  11. Love this outfit! I just wore something similar… and I was rocking bare legs too. (And at work every single day thank you very much). All that about the hose is just bizarre! LOL. If you work in the type of place that requires you to wear hose (you know, lawyer types), I think the leather skirt wouldn’t go over well. People are so weird. I think you look absolutely adorable! Don’t change a thing! 🙂

    1. I agree. Every office has a dress code, and you have to abide by it. Wearing hose is not in my company’s dress code- I don’t think I’ve worn a pair of true “hose” since I was a kid…? Tights/leggings are more my thing. Thanks, Nikki! 🙂
