Extra LSR: Halo with AesthetiCare.

Halo at AesthetiCare delivers skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime.

We’ve already covered how Forever Young BBL is the treatment to address hyperpigmentation (read all about my amazing experience here), but what’s a girl to do when she wants to address texture issues like fine lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores? You report immediately to AesthetiCare and get a Halo laser treatment. (And you do it in November when they are running an amazing deal: buy Halo for your face, get your neck treated for free!)

What is the Halo Laser?

The Halo laser is the only hybrid fractional laser on the planet. This means it’s actually two laser wavelengths in one to double those benefits: a laser addressing issues at the skin’s surface and a laser penetrating deep into the skin. Before Halo, you would need two separate treatments to achieve the kind of results Halo delivers. The bonus with Halo: you can get a 2-for-1 deal in both time spent under the laser and time spent recovering.

The staff at AesthetiCare know Halo inside and out (no, really– they actually train other medspas on how to use it!) and are able to customize the treatment for each patient based on what his/her skin needs. For me, my pores are small (dry skin club!) but I was seeing a few fines lines I wanted to soften. I went back to Amy, who I worked with during my rounds of Forever Young BBL, and we talked through the treatment. While 3-5 rounds of BBL are needed to achieve optimal results, you only need a single Halo treatment to see huge skin gains.

Benefits of Halo Laser

  • Removal of fine lines and wrinkles. The Halo laser is really good at zapping these lines, which turns back the clock on your face.
  • Minimal downtime. I’ll share my exact experience below, but basically, you’re getting major skin rejuvenation without having to hide away for weeks while you recover.
  • Youthful, glowing skin. All the collagen! All the glow! All the youth! By eliminating skin damage and boosting collagen, your skin gets a major boost.

What to Expect During + After Your Treatment

Just like in my Forever Young BBL post, I wanted to share my step-by-step experience so you guys know exactly what to expect.

Halo day: Amy applied a numbing cream all over my face and neck and let me sit for an hour. This felt so strange, but it made the actual Halo treatment a breeze. I didn’t feel much during; my skin did get hot as Amy passed the laser over each area, but that was mitigated by cold air blown on my skin by the laser itself and by a hose pumping cold air that I held during the treatment. Honestly, Halo was more comfortable during than Forever Young BBL. Thank you, numbing cream!

Just hanging out with some numbing cream on my face + neck.

However, my face and neck were very hot immediately after the treatment. I experienced a pretty intense stinging sensation for about an hour after. My skin was bright red, too, as if I had a bad sunburn. Thankfully, the AC staff gives you an after-care kit packed with goodies for your skin, including a cooling thermal water spray that you apply whenever your face feels hot. Which, for me, was about every 5 minutes for about an hour and a half post-treatment.

Things are pretty hot over here.

The only thing you can put on your skin post-treatment on Halo day is the thermal spray. No moisturizers, serums, cleansers, nada! Just mist to your heart’s content.

After about 90 minutes post-Halo, my skin just felt really sunburnt. The stinging + intense heat had both subsided. My face was a little swollen, especially around my eyes. I noticed this because it felt odd to make expressions, but my boyfriend didn’t notice until he examined my face under a bright bathroom light.

Day 2: hi there, sunburn! It looks like I’ve spent a day in the sun. You can also see the MENDS starting to form on my nose and the tops of my cheeks.

Day 2: My skin felt tight, sunburnt. It was a little pink and hot to the touch, but that stinging sensation was gone. I was allowed to wash with a gentle cleanser and moisturize with CeraVe (both of which my cute little after-care kit provided), which was nice because my skin felt dry and a little rough to the touch.

Little black spots have appeared all over my face. They are called MENDS (which stands for microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) and are totally normal. (You actually want these to appear, because they are microscopic wounds containing melanin that will eventually flake off and reveal even, new skin!)

Day 3: after a gentle cleanse, skin is shiny and ready for moisurizer.

Masking on Day 3 with the Avene concentrated moisturizer to really give skin a drink.

Day 3: The sunburnt feeling was totally gone, but my skin feels very dry and rough. Fine-grit sandpaper, or very close to it. The MENDS had started to flake in certain places, which was annoying (because I’m a picker!) but I couldn’t exfoliate, scratch, or disturb. You have to give the skin time to heal. My skin was also a little itchy, which made sense because the laser essentially damaged the skin to force it to repair itself (at the microscopic level, of course) and healing skin = itchy skin.

Day 4: from a distance, I just look sunburnt.

Up close on Day 4: lots of MENDS!

Day 4: MENDS really started to flake on my chin, around my mouth, and on the tops of my cheeks. My skin still felt very dry (moisturizer helped!) but where the skin had flaked already was super soft and pink in color.

I actually went out with a pal for drinks that night wearing a little bit of mineral makeup on my skin. I was worried I looked crazy, but my friend assured me that it really wasn’t that noticeable.

Day 5: things look relatively normal and skin has an even glow.

Day 5: The flaking started to slow down! My skin actually looked pretty normal. It was less dry and tight, also less pink. I had some occasional itchiness on my chin and neck.

Day 6: Most of the MENDS on my face had flaked off; the only flaking left was on the sides of my neck. My whole face was super soft, with a little pinkness on the tops of the cheeks. The itchiness was still present, mostly on the neck. I was back to wearing normal makeup by day 6.

What does Halo laser cost?

One round of Halo for the face costs $1200 at levels 1 and 2, and $1500 at level 3 (your level will be determined by the awesome staff at AC, but in general if you’re under 40 you’ll be a level 2 and over 40 a level 3). Treating the neck (which is so smart to do, since your neck ages just like your face and has fewer oil glands to keep it youthful) runs $509– but is free this month at AesthetiCare with purchase of a Halo treatment for the face.

A note about Halo: while a more expensive treatment, you only need one treatment a year, max. If you’re under 40, you may only need one treatment every few years. To compare, Forever Young BBL is only $400 a treatment, but you often need 3-5 treatments initially and then 1-2 treatments a year to maintain + build on those results.

Another item of note: fall is the perfect time to get Halo because you really need to limit your UV exposure after the treatment while your skin heals. Unprotected UV exposure is going to undo the progress the laser made (which means you just spent all that money for nada!). AesthetiCare’s November Halo special is such an amazing deal– get your face and your neck treated before the holidays, and then by spring you’re fully healed and can resume normal sun exposure (with SPF protection, of course).

My Results

My skin was completely back to normal by day 8, when all the pinkness had resolved and everything that was going to flake had flaked. AesthetiCare recommends sticking with a gentle skin routine (i.e., no retinoids, salicylic acids, or harsh exfoliation) until day 10-14; I waited until day 12 to return to my normal routine.

I noticed an immediate softening of the fine lines in my face; it was like having a bit of a filter on my skin. I’m about 2 weeks post-Halo now, and the most noticeable wrinkle difference is a softening of the fine lines in my forehead.

L-r: Fine lines in the forehead before Halo; no wrinkles present 2 weeks post-Halo!

I will continue to see improvements in these features over the next few weeks, as Halo results take several months to develop. That is something to keep in mind with Halo: the results aren’t immediate, because it takes your skin longer to boost that collagen as you heal. But trust! The radiance and the rejuvenation are coming!

    1. For fine lines, Halo is your go-to! For hyperpigmentation, BBL is the go-to! 🙂 I did a few rounds of BBL this summer and reviewed it here, too. You should pop in and have a consult- the experts know best!

  1. The results are amazing! I am so glad you shared this because I have noticed fine wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes that I would like to treat. You are glowing! <3

    Have a wonderful week!

    1. I am soooo happy with my results so far- excited to see them develop even more over the next few months! Halo is a bit of a waiting game because the WOW results aren’t immediate, but it’s WORTH it!

    1. Yessss- while the MENDS are super small and not really noticeable unless you get up close, if you don’t know to expect them (and that they’re actually a GOOD THING), it would freak you out! Haha! Thanks, doll!

  2. Yes I have heard of this I watched a You Tube video on this and the results were quite good. But it was a process for sure. You were brave to do this but I must say you skin did not look as bad as what you describe. And the last photo you look great. I would like to get something done for my frown lines. Not sure if I would do my whole face but maybe for frown lines. Botox scares me.

    1. You’re very kind, Allie- and yes, I’m definitely on the younger side for Halo. I’m using it more to completely erase small, fine lines that have formed, rather than addressing more serious aging issues down the road. You know what they say- it’s easier to correct a little than a lot! But yes, Halo is excellent for frown/expression lines! Even only 2 weeks out, the expression lines in my forehead are gone!
