Acid-Wash Denim Dress and a Boater Hat for KC Homes & Style.

When you think of summer dresses, you think airy, lightweight, and breezy. A denim dress doesn’t exactly scream breezy– well unless the dress has some summer-appropriate features. I’m sharing what to look for in the July/August edition of KC Homes & Style.

At first glance, this denim dress doesn’t seem like it can work in the midwest heat and humidity. Longer sleeves, darker color? Oy. But what set this dress up for summer success is the fact the denim is super lightweight and broken in. This means it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a pair of Levi’s 501s, but rather structured brushed cotton. And yes, those sleeves are long, but they’re balanced by the short hemline and the babydoll cut.

You know I’m always down for a babydoll dress, but they work so well in the summertime because they allow for maximum ventilation. No form-fitting fabric here, no ma’am.

A boater hat adds some summery style and sun protection. Sun protection is so key;  it’s the number one source of skin aging! That wide brim is going to shield your face, neck, and chest– all areas very susceptible to UV damage. I also like the way its nautical vibe plays with the acid-wash denim. A fun, quirky combo.

To finish the look, I’ve slipped into a pair of braided sandals. Last week it was a double strap and a 3-inch heel; this week it’s a single strap with a kitten heel. I told you I was all over this trend.

    Is it actual cotton denim, or like a lyocell? It looks so light and floaty!

    1. It’s actual cotton! I was impressed with how lightweight it was- normally I stick with a Lycocell-type fabric if I’m going with denim in the summer, but this denim was lightweight enough to work!

  34. That is such a cute mini dress! I like dresses like this for summer but I tend to stick with lighter viscose like fabrics. This does look so adorable though!
