Wearing a Swimsuit as a Bodysuit.

Remixing a swimsuit for everyday wear.

Bodysuits are everywhere. They’re easier to wear than you think– especially with high-waisted shorts, skirts, and summer-friendly trousers. Don’t have bodysuit? Consider raiding your swimsuit drawer: the right one-piece is actually a perfect bodysuit candidate.

I took this gorgeous olive green crochet swimsuit from Becca (on sale right now!) and layered it under a pair of neutral striped linen shorts. The high waist and boxy cut of the shorts keep the outfit from being too tart, while the halter neckline + see-through features of the swimsuit add some spice. (This suit comes in several different colors and another style!) Because my legs can always use a boost, an olive green wedge add length (and a little matchy-matchiness, which I sort of love here).

The see-through cutouts are really fun, right? A little suggestive without being too much. You could also throw on a breezy duster + kimono number over the top of this to add some coverage, or even a denim jacket (I’ve been such a fan lately) if you were headed somewhere super air-conditioned (like the movies, which seem to be frigid in the summer).

How do you know if your pool-friendly one-piece can double as a bodysuit? Stick with matte fabrics– anything too shiny is going to be a dead giveaway unless you’re going for a totally 90’s, Saved By the Bell vibe. Solids work better than prints, but they’re not totally off-limits. This stretches your closet and saves you from having to stock up on bodysuits– just repurpose your swimsuit collection!

  1. Well, this turned out absolutely beautifully! And I heart those wedges big time! Happy Tuesday gorgeous!

  2. Definitely a fun way to keep the bathing suit working long after the pool! And also saves on packing if you’re travelling to use it for double duty! xo, Biana

  3. Green in general is your color, girl, but I love olive green on you all the more! This swimsuit is so pretty and I love how you’ve styled it like a bodysuit. This is one of the many reasons I love them so much, so versatile. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great week!

  4. Such a cute, fun look! I love this idea, especially if you are, say, having brunch with friends and then hitting the pool later! I love pieces that do double duty.

  5. Ah yes I have been hearing about this trend! Funny but I saw a striped bathing suit in COS which had a matte finish. I almost bought it as it was only $49 but thought oh I have enough suits. But maybe I should get it!

You look great in this crocheted version. Love it!

    1. You should totally get it- with matte fabrics, NO ONE is going to know it’s a swimsuit, and you have a piece that can pull double-duty!
