Ultimate transitional style? This slip dress and a leather jacket.

Welcome to September and hope you had a great Labor Day weekend! It’s a signal of change; soon we’ll be knee-deep in crunchy leaves, blanket scarves, and holiday talk. But in early September, things are still in transition. While you may want to go full-blown fall, you have to take the temps into account. I’m giving you an outfit option here with this tiger-striped slip dress and leather jacket combo. The slip dress is slinky which means it’s cool (in so many ways, but also actually, physically cool), but those brown tiger tones give the look a little fall touch. The midi length is another nod to cooler weather; this isn’t your summer mini dress. I layered my all-time favorite leather jacket (literally so old, but here’s the brand’s most recent version) over the top to create some more fall-anchored balance. Now we’re talking September!

A heel is the natural choice for a dress like this, as it feeds into the, “Hi, I’m going out tonight” vibe. But I was looking to create a more casual feel: enter the classic Nike Cortez sneaker. So retro, so comfy, and played so well against the slip dress.

We shot this look featuring the slip dress + leather jacket for SPACES in July (in order to make our editorial deadline). It was so hot and muggy, you guys. Even though we waited until the evening, it was still in the 90s and the air was heavy with humidity. That is one of the reasons for the topknot– I straight up could not deal with hair on my neck. The shoot turned out so beautiful, though! That blogger life, ha. And te look is super appropriate now for cooler mornings + evenings in September when the afternoons still warm up, even if this was miserable to shoot in July.
