More pre-fall with a super airy cardigan and an overall dress.

How back-to-school chic is this overall dress? You last saw it this past spring with a navy bandana, and now I’m breaking it out for fall with a super breezy gray cardigan. A simple white crop provides a base layer, and a pair of gray Nike Juvenate sneakers put that athleisure spin I know + love on the look. This outfit is both breezy and cozy, which makes it perfect for early September when the weather is warm but fall is just around the corner.

So how else can you wear an overall dress? It works now with flats (loafers, sandals, lace-ups) and later with tall boots. For warmth, you could also add a pair of leggings or tights, and you could swap out the lightweight cardigan for a lined leather jacket, a bomber, or a boyfriend blazer. Build up warmth by choosing a thin sweater or a fitted long-sleeved tee rather than the cropped t-shirt like pictured above. Who would’ve thought the dress you wore for your first day of kindergarten was so versatile?

Kansas City friends, you can find me in this week’s issue of INK magazine, where I’m talking fall fashion with a few other style pros from around the city.

Frequent LSR visitors won’t be surprised: I’m all about toughened-up boho this fall, which means lots of long floral dresses with ankle boots and leather jackets.

Speaking of florals, I wore this killer bomber jacket from H&M (buy it, you know you want to) for the INK shoot. Hello, a sparkly varsity stripe against a dark silk floral? Say no more, I am there.

 

I styled this jacket with a 90s-style black choker, scuba leggings, and a simple pair of black booties for a cool fall outfit that goes just about anywhere.
